Zadara is due back at the prison at the beginning of next week, and it is anticipated that she'll return the files she borrowed at that time.

The murder happened several months prior, so it was hardly a crime scene anymore. More aptly it was a thoroughfare in the Lady's Ward proximal to the Prison itself. A site where hundreds if not thousands of cutters walked through on a daily basis. Upon inspection, the thoroughfare appeared as Dace would expect one to appear - busy, crowded at times, nondescript cobbled ground in the Lady's Ward. As expected, there were no obvious clues apparent.

As per the report previously read the assailant appeared on the roof, apparently taunting those below, then seemed to be taking a suicidal jump from the top of the Barracks to the ground- leading by her hooded head.

Midway through the flight, a horizontal portal appeared and she vanished within.
The portal appeared in mid-air near the facade of the barracks, about 10 meters above ground level. The facade of the barracks was filled with arches due to the spiky architecture and anywhere among these spikes could a portal or portals have their entrance or exit. Unless one could levitate (and gain permission from the Harmonium themselves), it would be difficult to examine the area more closely, even from the adjacent civilian rooftops.

Dace silently cursed. Not because of the clueless scene- which was to be expected after all this time- but because circumstances were such that he'd have to talk to certain people about this. Problem is, the Godswoman specifically asked this be kept under wraps.

He briefly considered using the same tricks he employed to scout out the Far Realms outpost of the Lady's Ward to get a peak at the supposed portal point, but decided against it. It's not like the Harmonium needed yet another reason to make a case out of his name.

Though it probably would be worth it...making the Harmonium chase after a sparrow to arrest it...., He mused.

He kept roaming outside, waiting for Rozalina to return while considering the options, occasionally looking back up to the assassins identified jump point, tracing her trajectory.

Taunting could have been....invoking? Casting? Or did she reach....

A thought occured to him, and he made a mental note to catch Maelfina when he next went to the Bazaar. Meanwhile, he waited, really hoping whoever was assigned to this case wasn't that Larris character or one of his cronies. Powers knew if it was, this wouldn't go anywhere anytime soon...

A few hours after Dace's visit to the archives, word spread that Zadara had been booked. Her body was found in the Lady's Ward and has been transported to the Mortuary. Details are fuzzy though a preliminary investigation has been conducted by Harmonium and a report is due to be released soon.

Oblivious to the fact at the time, Dace returns to the prison after poking around the barracks and waiting for Roz a while. He signs off for the day unless stopped by anyone, then heads to Khazeets, hoping to find Maelfina there.

Dace quirked an eyebrow.

"Beg your pardon? You asked for our badges... here they are. You said she's expecting us, so...what's the problem?"

"Had ye mistaken fer someone else. We ain't lettin' any ol' Triad barge in and bang-about. If ye don't know wot badges I'm talkin' of, then I'm sure ye ain't s'pposed t' be here."

He makes a dismissive motion, ushering them away. Nearby, three more gate-guards watch the interaction closely, in the event that trouble may arise.

He's visibly puzzled for a moment, but turns back and heads out with Rozalina (unless she's doing something else?))

Of course... why should anything be convenient or easy... he silently grumbled.

With the only potential lead being blocked off, he returns back to the Prison..... where the notice comes into view. An irritated frown crosses his face.

"...so if they were just going to tell everyone not to bother..." he says to Rozalina. "Why the hell did they ask us in the first place?"

"Sounds like there's dissension in the ranks. I could try slipping back inside..but that wouldn't exactly be honoring the letter or the spirit of the law. Didn't sound like he was angling for a bribe, though."
Roza would scratch her chin thoughtfully.
" Might be worth hanging around to see if someone else shows up."

He nodded. "Could be....still count as an independent investigation I reckon, but then again... no one said we can't just happen to be around and notice whose going in and flashing badges."

With that, he lets her take point and follows.

There were numerous ways to infiltrate the Mortuary, if Dace and Roza were so inclined. Magical means, via stealth, via trickery (playing dead or pretending to enter for an internment, or disguise) were among the few options that immediately came to mind.

For now, the Gate Guards kept an eye on the duo of Mercykillers if they decided to remain in sight, and they were not bothered.

((Will post here once other aspects of the campaign get caught up to speed))
