Report On Carnival Aftermath

Charae's report on the incident during the carnival's last day is sent to the desk of Factor Swan's Son.

This is my report on the incident that occurred involving the creatures from the Far Realm.

During the festivities at the carnival, a portal opened in the midst of the dance and a horde of translucent creatures appeared. They bent and shifted their forms into the semblance of ghost-like entities and shouted claims that the Lady has been dispatched. Whether this is true or not has not been verified yet. We dispatched the creatures shortly after. There were a number of casualties among the common population and a few Harmonium were injured. There was a dwarf of immense power that appeared to be behind it. He fled toward he end of the battle.

A group of us ventured into Undersigil afterward, investigating if there were other portals in the area. We eventually came upon one in the Undersigil Village and managed to apprehend the mentioned dwarf. The cultists of Tharizdun revealed to us that the creatures were indeed from the Far Realm.

Before the Doomdreamer could continue his explanation, a mass of infighting broke out into the temple. When we arrived outside, the portal had resurfaced. A small group of adventurers by the names of Ku, Chains, Rond, and Ganatog went into the portal despite our suggestions not to. Their fate remains unknown at the time this report was written.

Afterward, we brought the dwarf back to the prison. He is currently under our care and has no recollection of what happened. It is believed that the dwarf was possessed, as one of the entities succeeded in temporarily possessing the merchant Dace during the fighting. While I cannot verify if this dwarf is lying, I do not believe he is at fault for what has happened but should be questioned all the same.

Once the dwarf was taken to a cell, we went back into Undersigil. A monodrone by the name of Pip re-opened the portal back into the Far Realm. I advised against going into the portal, as the Far Realm is known to bend and twist the bodies and minds of all those within it, but the three that went in could not be swayed. Their names are Dace, Sasha, and Sall. At the time this report was written, I presume them dead or maddened by the plane.

I will question the dwarf once he is healthy and well enough for the interrogation. I would suggest that the group that ventured into the portal be detained by the Harmonium if they are seen again. We have no way of knowing what the plane could have done to them. If they return, they should be examined to ensure they were not warped by the plane and be cleared once they have a full bill of health.

An amendment followed a few hours later.

Factor Swan's Son,

The group has returned from the plane. It appears that the portal was a trap for the group that took them to a fungal plane, not the Far Realm. Those that ventured into the portal are all accounted for and appear fine physically and mentally. Though this is all from a fire genasi named Rond and I could not verify what exact plane they went to. I leave the next course of action to you and am standing by if you have need of me.

Charae recieves the following response

Justicar Charae,

After a meeting with others within and out the faction I highly suggest that you perform a head count and make sure everyone is present and accounted for in your unit as well as see to it that they are not one of the possessed.  We are receiving reports that members of the factions are either going missing or acting very peculiar. 

We are tightening patrols and doubling shifts within the prison.  Be cautious and ever watchful,

After a few days pass and Charae performs her checks to find all members of her squad accounted for and not exhibiting any out of the ordinary behaviour she receives a second letter from Arwyl.

Justicar.

I have received word that the dwarven prisoner (GC45689) is concious and responsive.  Please proceed with the interrogation.  I would like you to take Namer Shadowshade with you for this exercise.

The reasons for this are twofold.  Firstly given the nature of the prisoner I have decided Reddeath officers should only meet with the prisoner in pairs allowing them to watch for signs of possession in one another. Secondly she has recently returned to the Faction after a long period of absence.  I would like her skills as an interrogator reviewed and I believe you are better suited to the task than I am.
