Small clear case has a singular ice blue rose with closed petals, the viens of the flower hinting of a crimson.


This is what is called a Rose of Sorrow. Originally made by the Black Magi of Krynn as a defensive item to keep intruders away from their wizard towers, this particular breed was harvested and brought with me from the one and only Demi-plane of Dread. Here they grow wild in the lands of Sithicus, unchecked. When the rose is planted in the ground, anyone that comes
within ten feet of the rose and inhales the fragrance becomes enthralled. It brings forward ones inner griefs, sorrows and regrets to the surface to reflect on and makes it difficult to move from the spot. One Im provided is of diluted potency so not to risk another being trapped until help comes by.

These blue roses reproduce by dropping one seed per month that instantly grows into another rose that extends the radius of the affected area of its aroma. Left unchecked, they will continue to bloom new roses until a dozen are reached. Magical fire can destroy them and magical cold causes them to close up and be inert until planted again.

The rose is replanted in a secluded corner of the Festhall's greenhouse, with a few signs set up to warn approaching visitors of the rose's effects. Once the rose has produced seeds (and thus new roses) a few times, some spare seeds are collected and delivered to the Festhall's apothecary for experimentation.

Occasionally the shadow marquess visits the rose-strewn melancholy corner of the gardens for a moment of quiet contemplation, but otherwise leaves the roses in the hands of more botanically-inclined Sensates.
