Running for freedom

Running for freedom

Footsteps echo down a poorly lit cavern, your fleeing as fast as your feet could carry you, gasping ragged breaths from how long you've been running.  You round the corner towards a large set of double doors, pale moonlight peeking into the cavern through the cracks. The overwhelming feeling of apprehension and pain chases you as if a great beast was at your heels; every step closer to the doors the sense of safety and the promise of freedom grows.

Your hands hit the doors, your flesh stinging painfully from the full force of your momentum hitting the smooth wooden surface. Flinging them open, you burst outside under a great sky of sparkling stars, your pace finally slowing to a stop as you gaze up in amazement at the sky. The strong aroma of fresh rain in a forest hits your face, the light breeze rustling the leaves of the trees in the otherwise silent forest.

Never before have you seen something so beautiful,  the stars twinkling like thousands of diamonds lodged into the ceiling of a great cavern.  The feeling of intense vertigo comes over you while staring upwards at night sky for the first time as if the earth had fallen away from under your feet. In this moment nothing else exists.

The heavens above begin to weep, the cool gentle touch of rain kissing your face.  You lift your hand to wipe away the rain drops from your cheek, looking at the spots of wetness on your deep ebony skin and you wonder to yourself if the great cavern above has cracked.

In these moments you experience a great relief, though it's short-lived, as you pull your attention back to the forested surroundings you feel the growling fear from cavern behind you return to the pit of your stomach and the uncertainty of the new life that stands in front of you.

All that's certain is that you know nothing about this new world, and you can't ever go home.

A rather happy Cherry wholeheartedly stamped her approval after reviewing the stone at the behest of Factotum Quinn. There were hugs all 'round when Quinn likewise approved the dark elf's application stone and handed out his Namer pin. Congratulations Namer Galawyn!
