The Succubus, yes it was nearly sure it was a Succubus now had, had an interesting day. It had wandered through a portal. It liked portals, portals were everywhere and it never new where it would end up. This portal had not been a good one though. It had been one way and the Succubus had found itself trapped and surrounded by other fiends, not the hated Baatezu but not Tanar'ri either. What were they called? It new what they were called! Demondands yes that was it, not important though, they were dead now. It had met another of its kind a Herzou with whom it had, had an enjoyable chat about the nature of chaos while they slaughtered the other fiends. Death and chaos. Yes, yes! Those things it liked. They had fought free of the place and met a third Tanar'ri. This one it had known a long time. Ever since the two of them were rutterkin. It wasn't sure what happened in between then and now but the two of them had remained together.

The Herozu had told them there was someone it would like them to meet. They'd gone to another place. What was it called? It didn't remember. What it did remember was that the Herozu had introduced them to a lich and a death knight. It new about liches. It was from Thantos after all. At least it thought it was. The Lich had wanted the help of both it and its brother. Something to do with the Sign of One and the Powers. It had decided that the Sign of One and the Powers were things it really didn't want to cross, not without good cause. And the Lich had offered it very little reward beyond returning the soul of some Mercykiller warlock to the demon's it had cheated. This had made it laugh to itself. If some other Tanar'ri had been cheated of a soul then that was their problem as far as it was concerned. Let them do their own dirty work and get it back. It had refused the Lich's offer and left the place it found him. What place was it? Oh yes! It remembered. The Lich was in that place! It felt quite pleased with itself for remembering. It was hungry. It went to Quakes.

Somewhere in the multiverse there was a dwarf. It was a dwarf. It was a confused dwarf, partly because it was not entirely sure it actually was a dwarf, but this was not its most pressing concern at the moment. No it's most pressing concern at the moment was that it was on a boat. It was on a boat on the river Styx, and around it the steep cliffs of Gehenna slowly passed by.

The dwarf that wasn't really a dwarf tried to recall how this had happened. It had started with the Lich. It had met the Lich before, only it wasn't a dwarf then. It had seen one of the Lich's minions in the Bazaar in Sigil. It knew they were Athar. It had thought about the Athar. A big group of people in their temple gaining power from a mystical source and united firmly by their views on religion. It had thought that they sounded a lot like a religion themselves. Then panic had entered its mind. Did they know? What if they didn't know? Their god was called the great unknown after all, this suggests that they probably didn't know. It stopped briefly when it heard a human man wonder a loud that he had probably become paranoid because he thought people were plotting against him. It decided that cheer him up, so it had gone over and informed him not to worry people were plotting against him. It felt pleased with this. He wouldn't worry about being paranoid anymore.

It then raised its concerns to the Death Knight, at least it thought it was a death knight. The creation of death knights was a secret that eluded Orcus. Of the Abyssal powers only Demogorgon knew how to create them. But where did Demogorgon learn this!? No no no this was not why it was on the boat. It had raised its concerns to the creature it thought of as a death knight. They'd conversed and soon the Lich itself had arrived. It had tried to warn them both about the trick being played on the Athar but they were not receptive. Eventually they had claimed they had people to meet.

So being the amiable helpful being that looked like a dwarf that it was it had followed them. They had not seemed to mind. As it listened to them converse it learned they were here to meet a guvner, it didn't have a very high opinion of guvners. It's fears had been confirmed when the guvner had failed to arrive. This was typical of the shifty dishonest guvners it had thought. They were in Gehenna at that stage at a dock. The boat it was now on was just sitting there. So it had jumped a board. With the help of the Lich and what was probably a death knight it had cast off. Only it needed to be in Sigil now, something about a Baatezu, a Vampire and a Khashta and a contest. It hated Baatezu, nasty scheming....

So to get to Sigil it would need to be good at sailing and killing Yugoloths. It was only good at one of those things, but which one was it!?
