in 3.5 you need to be a spell caster to create constructs, i'm not really sure how or why a fighter would be able to. @.@
[EDIT] Like around 16 CL for iron golems i think.
Golem Master Golem Bonuses

The only bonus that golems created by a golem master keep is the bonus +2 to HD. So yes, GM golems are inherently better (if made by at least a level 7 GM), but only by a wee bit.
While the Golem Master class benefits casters the most, it is not an unfeasible class to add to a non-caster. That said, the golems would perform very poorly and it would be very expensive to maintain, given the lack of buffs. I'd only ever be using the golems in a party given that, or just carry around a small army of stone golems, since they are comparatively disposable.
Currently, a GM's summoned golem also gets more than the +2 to AC specified in the feats (Last I checked it was +7 at 10 GM).
Like Lucadia said, it would be good if the GM class checked for mage/priest/psion levels and applied a bonus if they don't have that.
The Eschew Arcanum feat is especially useful, since it allows psions to become golem crafters too.
IMHO, the biggest problem with the class atm is that the golem recipes rely on base craft ranks, which means any race with more than +3 or so LA is severely gimped in capabilities. But folks are working on reducing the LA on races anyway, so it's soon to be a moot point.
Would be nice to have a Release Binding feat for GMs like Shadowdancers and Demonologists have though.
I do feel that the cost of golems for non-GM characters though is ridiculous. Basically no point making a golem if you're not a GM. Even for RP. It's easier to rebuild twice than it is to gather the funds for making a golem without GM levels...

Even more painful for a psion, fighter still at least gets 5 points of bab progression, spell casters get a few caster levels. Taking golem master on a psion is just mutually assured destruction (MAD) lolJelkia,Sep 7 2016 wrote: Rejoice fer 10 levels ah low BAB.. 1d4 HD.. an needin ta spend ah ton ah skill points in some otherwise useless an likely... beyond GM.. outta class craftin skills?![]()
Uh.. no thanks?
Are ya trollin.. er was tha actually ah point in favor ah tha GM class when et was made? Cause while tha Golems migh be friendly an even make ya tea.. tha GM class itself es gonna bend ya over if yer ah fighter type pokemon.

As opposed to not being able to build any golems at all for lack of caster levels. I think the possibility of being able to be a completely non-magic golem crafter is a neat thing.
The effectiveness is a different story that I don't really care for and isn't something I'd much like to discuss. The possibility of varied character concepts is very wonderful, though.

I think you folks overlooked what I previously mentioned: Eschew Arcanum. It lets you build golems without caster levels.Sinlinara,Sep 9 2016 wrote: As opposed to not being able to build any golems at all for lack of caster levels. I believe that's what she's referring to. You don't need to be a caster at all to build golems and that in itself is a bonus, maybe not one many ppl jump at but it still opens possibilities.Neutral Zone,Sep 12 2016 wrote:I think you folks overlooked what I previously mentioned: Eschew Arcanum. Hey I cured my Narcolepsy in NWN by alt tabbing and doing something else...Whitefly,Sep 13 2016 wrote: I think the only reason you would play a golem master is if you suffered from chronic narcolepsy. The class is dull as dish water and the only upside is that it gets a cool summon who can play the game for you until you wake up.
