It appears my difficulty with spellcraft is caused by planeswalking, more specifically the different planes affecting my casting differently. For instance, on a trip to the Beastlands an Invisibility spell I cast merely turned me half-transparent. Another time a Combust spell nearly singed my face. But I have found a fix for these problems.

I got a friend at the Laboratory to create a new enchanted amulet for me and hollow it out. The amulet itself with its enchantments should help counter the planes' negative effect on my casting, and I can use the hollow compartment to store material components for my stronger spells too.

Getting hold of these materials and essences has proven expensive, however, so I will be taking up alchemy to distil them myself from now on. I have spoken to a few alchemists already -- one apparently a veteran of some "Blood War" fought earlier -- and they have been very helpful. Only a matter of days before I will be self-sufficient I think.

My alchemy practice is paying off, I have already been able to distil some faint and glowing essences for my amulet. It seems the better quality of essence allows for higher circle spells to be cast. I will have to test this further in different planes.

The essences can, I have learned, also be used for infusing weapons and armor with enchantments, much like the chainmail armor I got enchanted a few tendays ago. Being able to do this myself sounds quite useful, so I will be looking into this.

I have met some progress in spellcraft aswell. I now understand most fourth circle spells, but have yet to test them out in practical appliactions. This should impress my combat teacher. Speaking of which, I have not seen her around for awhile now.

I finaly got a hold of my combat teacher to show off my newfound skills, but she seemed preoccupied with other matters. Also, she wore different clothes and pretended not to know me. I presume she was under cover and on a mission or in hiding from the Harmonium.

Instead I went with a band of fortune seekers to the Nine Hells of Baator, where I got ample opportunity to test warding spells against hordes of otherworldly creatures. Had it not been for them and my companions I would not have made it back to Sigil, I am sure.

A few days later in a somewhat drunken stupor I inadvertently promised Ymerion to take care of his legal defence in a trial to appear soon. Clearly I was drunk, as I have no legal experience whatsoever. I should start by gathering witness statements.

I am so nervous. Ym's trial is coming up any day now, and I am sure we will be facing off against top notch lawyers. Still, my witness statements have borne some fruit, and I have made some deals and cut some corners here and there to help us in court.

Yasher has agreed to provide false testimony in court redeeming Ymerion and his accomplice Bergimon. If that fails I can pin the blame on Alex via the testimony he gave me himself. I would prefer not to, however. Finally, we struck a deal with a shady figure. If Ym and Berg are imprisoned she will help spring them from their cells a few days later.

I realize this is not strictly legit, but the whole trial seems foolish in the first place. Ym only killed Yasmine, the victim, to spare the patrons of the Spirits Inn during her burning it with a Meteor Swarm spell. And now the Harmonium threaten to imprison Ym and Berg for saving lives. I am starting to despise the supposed protectors of Sigil.

Trial is over and I can finally relax again. It turned out reasonably well, too, although not exactly as planned. Ym had confessed and pleaded guilty for a reduced sentence, so I basically had nobody to represent. Berg's advocate never turned up, however, so I took over his defense instead. I wish Ym had informed me about his decision sooner though.

Anyway, trial proceeded and I was a bit disappointed in Yasher not giving the testimony we had agreed on earlier. Maybe something got lost in translation; I may never know. Alex' testimony also did not help me and Berg much. A third witness, Mir of all people, was also brought on the stand to my surprise.

Luckily we convinced the judge that there was no hard evidence showing Berg to be guilty, beyond segmented confusing witness statements, so he avoided imprisonment. Berg also helped me out quite a bit during the trial. Could not have done my first trial alone. Time for some well-deserved rest I think.

Spent some time field testing my first fifth circle spells today. In the Abyss, of all places. I did not get too good a hang of them, but fortunately my companions could protect me from the demons and fiends I attracted. They seem to be drawn to me or my spell casting for some reason.

Back at the inn I was later contacted by the one supposed to spring Ym from the prison. She seemed to think I had a thing against the Harmonium, and to some extent she is right. She turned out to be one of the Doomguard. What else happened that night I remember surprisingly little about.

So far I have been going at it alone, but maybe I should start looking into all these factions in Sigil. Apart from the Harmonium and other stricter groups, I am sure some of them are bound to see things a bit more my way. Sigil should be a free city for everyone.

Spent some more time practicing magic. This time in necromancy and animating the dead. Quite a handy spell; I can raise the dead as servants and protectors for as long as I please. This will surely come in handy when I planeswalk by myself. The skeleton I raised seems very durable and capable of fighting back.

The Doomguard woman contacted me again, but this time in disguise. She seems to have a problem with Mir and needs to sue her in court before she countersues her. Her fabricated testimony has Mir steal a blade from her and threaten her life, before she defends herself until some Harmonium friends of Mir arrive.

I have agreed to carry out this testimony in court, accusing Mir, but we need something extra if we are to beat Hildmor, as I hear he is a very good advocate. I will try to obtain a sensory stone that we can tamper with and use as a "witness" to Mir "stealing" the blade. Some fifth circle magic should be enough to alter the stone.

I am at a crossroads, paranoid and afraid. The Doomguard woman I agreed to represent in court by many accounts appears to be a person called The Ashen. This person allegedly has killed and harmed many innocents and is likely to do so again. Or so Ym and other of my friends said.

It seems at one point even the bloody Harmonium was after me for helping her. How was I supposed to know? I later got forced into working as an informant and to spy on The Ashen for the authorities, but she is so intimidating that I have been too scared of contacting her again. Now she, the Harmonium and my friends despise me.

I mostly sit and cower in my room, sometimes fleeing to the planes if people get too close. I have even been unable to concentrate on magic study. I just want to be left alone to go about my own business, but this latest ordeal is taking its toll on me. I am also lately being plagued by unsettling dreams when trancing.

It appears the dreams I have are more than figments of imagination and have some ties to my real life. Perhaps they are even visions intended to help me out of the fit I find myself in lately. None of these visions are however pleasant. All of them deal with death, danger and other such gloom robbing me of proper rest.

In my last dream I was visited by what can only be demons. They told me about a looming danger searching for me, and of my past before I was born. Whether I believe them or not is another matter, but for now I have little to gain from ignoring their warnings.

The demons claim I am the child of a Red Wizard of Thay, Koren Tyrmitore, whom the Cowled Wizards hunted down and killed for the horrendous suffering he caused through his spellcraft. And now the Cowled Wizards have sent a mage hunter to Sigil to track me down.

I had another vision last night, once again with demons contacting me. They said the mage hunter, Vladimir Konstantin, now knows my name and is actively questioning people and scrying for any trace of me. They also said I will need their help to survive if he ever finds me.

Even before I was born, my real father made a pact with the demons, leaving his firstborn in their hands to use as they please. Until recently they had only watched and protected me from the sidelines, but now matters have escalated and they are forced to take more active measures in use to keep me alive to serve their purposes.

The demons will keep me alive any way they can and grant me further powers to protect myself, but in return they demand I follow their directions and carry out any orders they have. I fear these nefarious orders may force me to do things I would rather avoid, but I cannot afford to refuse their demands while my life is in danger.
