Hi, thanks! =)

Well I make it no secret that I think my favored class has shortcomings, they don;t get their feats, and manifester level is severely restricted here. Then you have monsters with high saves over 30 which is essentially like an over 60 ac monster.

That besides the point, it's going fairly steadily. I have some more coin again so I'll look out for an enchanter or merchant. So far soloing limbo has brought me a whole lot, it's a gift that keeps on giving. =)

Clangor is doable pre-epic solo as well as long as you don't let yourself get swarmed with sneak attacks. But I need some natural armor, and my boots and shield are both only +2 currently. My main weapon is still the axe Alrec, +2 + 1d6 fire and dominate monster. I have some +5 weapons but don't have feats in those.

Oh and as for items with feats, mhm, I have a mace with knockdown on it, so instead of spending a feat I just dual wield that if I need to interrupt a mage.

Thing is, casters have been buffed largely because we are a high magic setting and the original summons would not in any way keep up with other melee characters on the server.

Which reminds me (a little off topic ^^), does anyone know how long the epic gate summon lasts and whether it's worth going for?

Can't speak much on other summons except I know some of the non summoning classes have improved summons too. Also undead seem far too powerful, when an npc uses create undead or something it's extremely strong. The psion summon is only really viable in under 20 areas or groups with 6+ people so the enemies don't focus on it. Otherwise it dies in just a few blows, in a few areas while leveling it seemed weak against some of the level appropriate critters too. Even tho summons got boosted, if you check the output stats on the astral construct with the srd it's more or less the same, with a lil give or take, no outright boost. Exception that you can't do things like bring it into play with +8 deflection AC, DR, and elemental resistance, like you can in pnp. It also uses up 3 power slots, the other 2 being redundant.

I would say melee benefits from summon boosting too, I know Aleis sells staves of summoning for reasonable price, and you can hire henchmen too.

For npc summons the "more powerful than anything else in the area" summons are like the wererat that summons the mummy lord, or the gith master that summons the hellfire erinyes.

Just curious cause it goes back an forth here depending on yer response.. over all here...are ya trying ta say that casters got it rough on this server? Er just that fighters have it easier than folks seem ta think? Both?

Yer first post that sorta sets out the experiment seems like mostly hyperbole an ah don't know exactly where yer being serious an sarcastic with tha premise.

Thing is, I only have two levels that can hold my precious mass blindness/deafness spells, whereas a psion can devote all their points to horribly maiming enemies.

Yeah, and you come up to about the same, just considering number of spells, maybe 8 of 9th and 8 of 8th. That's 16 spells, not including your 1-7th level spells still.

I've considered making a cerebremancer/mystic theurge just for more power, more power, more power with three caster classes.

In pnp there are things like the erudite class, spells to power, and bend reality which gives you vancian spell casting on power points and so on. I think there's a 3.5 hack to get infinite spell casting this way.

Fair enough. In any case, it seems to me, if you have more utility (like a warlock does), 500dpr is reasonable. Plus, warlocks never run out of spells, in this game. You can't be the best at everything.

I get it about power builds, but I never saw the point of a powerbuild myself. I get why people do it; it's just not fun to me.

You can try to reverse math it too. Lets say your caster does a maximum of 20d6, the average weak melee build will have at least 6-8 attacks per round. That means you only need a fighter to do 3d6 to be at least as good.

That's like a fighter with a greatsword, 10 strength, and a 1d6 damage enchantment. Realistically they count str bonus, and enchantment bonus, and then some weapons do 3d6 bonus on top of normal damage. This fighter spell called "swing weapon" has unlimited castings and doesn't provoke attack of opportunity

Now got a thieves hood, my spells per day keep increasing, I might need to join a mages guild.

So you've gotten absurdly lucky with finding really good gear as a fighter to the point where you have multiple absurdly rare magic items that you're never going to replace, but you think that fighters are fine? That's the problem with them, they become fine when you have the best gear possible, and when you know that UMD is 100% essential on Sigil due to the server being fairly low magic with no immunities to be found on items. Once you get a few levels in, a cleric is going to be doing everything a fighter can do and more, and do it better.

The absolute biggest problem with fighters is trying to play one without friends helping you. Brux will be an absolute stopping point if you don't know the ins and outs of everything on the server or have people helping you out. The problem lies in everything past level 8 suddenly requiring mind effecting immunity or you just get absolutely destroyed in basically every single grinding area. Clerics/favored souls and wizards/sorcerers can just use a first level spell and be done with it, a fighter needs a friend or he needs enough skill ranks and feats to spare to get his UMD to 11, good luck if you're playing a race with a charisma penalty.

Nah I started out just a few days ago, going in and knowing that I would get "absurdly lucky" even tho it's my first melee character. It's not hard to get absurdly lucky, it's a choice.
wrote:the server being fairly low magic
Bzzt, it's an extremely high magic server. Low magic is you might find a +3 weapon with 1d6 bonus damage in your life time, and high level scrolls dropping in loot is banned.
wrote:Brux will be an absolute stopping point
I'm already way past there, Brux is a snore fest, literally, I don't even think I got half a level there just barely.

At level 10 I easily would have had like 10 will save if not more, that's even without iron will feat. Since 12-14ish I can cast mind immunity.
wrote:a fighter needs a friend or he needs enough skill ranks and feats
Luckily fighter gets about three times as many feats as most other people, and doesn't need much in way of skill, the int you need for expertise puts you up that you get 4-5 points per level. Not so hard really.

I don't know why people are always so doom and gloom about it, part of why I'm doing this. All the derisive comments about non melee classes in other threads constantly, and now here I am and it's a cake walk.

Constant goal post shifting isn't going to prove a point when there is factually so much positive stuff on offer. Even if I do this a second time people will just complain again and say I got lucky again, mysteriously knowing I would be lucky.

You too can be absurdly lucky if you choose to be?
