Of Missing Sensory Stones

Not quite understanding things like disappointment it responds in the same tone as before.

"Have you seen it before?"

Sasha then reached out to pick up the stone with the intent to view it for herself.

He glances at the Modron as he finishes with the forms, thinks a bit, then shrugs. "Go ahead. Recent battles spread bits and parts of my armour all over the plane anyway. Should get it repaired soon."

Then he turns to Sasha- perhaps he did not see the frown, perhaps he just decided to ignore it.

"Very well. I will take your offer- it will be a most interesting experience." As the modrone speaks again he gives both a curious look but stays silent for now, handing Sasha the forms to read, fill in and sign.

He lets them both examine the stone, does not interfere.

The stone's memory is as short as it is brutal. A Modrone walks through the Lower Ward at night. Sasha is briefly treated to a glimpse inside the creatures mind. The Multiverse is big and scary. But it has its part in it. As long as it does its part, follows the rules then it does not have to worry about the rest. It feels safe happy and blissfully content. This secure ordered (or terribly oppressive depending on Sasha's point of view) train of thought is shattered as it rounds a dark corner.

It is hit with something and knocked over it can't see what. Then it hears running and shouting sees three sets of boots circle around it. It is kicked and beaten as it lies helpless its spindly legs kick in the air. It is rolled over and three hooded figures force the sensate stone into its hands making it record the memory. They snatch the stone back and are gone quickly running towards The Hive.

The Modrones feelings are odd instead of fear or anger as one would expect it just feels confused. What has happened to it is in breach of the law. It cannot comprehend why anyone would break the law.

As insightful as this is to the thought processes of a Modrone the experience seems not to match the other stones that were around the one Sasha is looking for. In fact it seems this act was carried out to create a Modrone memory by force.

Sasha winced with pain as she viewed the stone, and then looked to Hograth with a very distraught expression:

"Did you view this? Its certainly not the right one at all!"

The Half Orc shakes his head. "I have not seen it, Factotum. I respected your wish that it shall be Sensate personell who checks the stone's content first."

He smiles at her, glances at the stone curiously.

"What is this stone's story then? Has it been stolen as well or was it merely lost? Or perhaps is it possible that non Sensates have the ability to create those now?

Anyway I will inform the patrols that they shall keep looking for the stolen stone- but it would help if we knew something about its history and content.

You see- if its content is of hedonistic nature different people will be interested in it than if it is a lecture about the beauty of sequences of numbers.

Indeed some content might be useful as material for blackmailing or give other hints in some berks personality that might be exploited- and I must consider that both an enemy of the person who was recording it and the person herself would be interested in the stone. One wants to steal it, the other one wants it just to... vanish.

And with vanishing.... have you considered that someone destroyed it? If what I said before is true someone might have just disintigrated the thing to prevent the content being used against him or her."

Sasha blinked with surprise, "Oh. . . oh right! Thank you. But as this is not the one from the private sensorium, I think it is safe for you to view it."

She looked back at Chari, assuming she was still present. "You too. If you haven't experienced one before, just hold it in your hand and concentrate on it."

Regardless of whether they did or not, she kept talking.

"As far as I know, only the Society can create stones ready for recording, but we have made deals in the past to furnish people with unrecorded stones. It is possible that one was stolen from there. . .

"This stone is the record of a crime done to a modron. The poor creature clearly didn't know why it had to record a memory, and is probably still very confused.

"The stone that is missing was recorded by a modron of its own free will, and probably contains something of a rather scandalous nature - that's why it was in the private sensorium. I suppose its the sort of thing that could be used as blackmail.

"I do not see why the recorder would want to steal the stone, however, as it was already private, and they already had access to it. Its much more likely that the thief stole the recorder's ticket, and then the stone. . .

"And I know that it might have been destroyed, but that seems a lot of trouble, and I'd rather think that it wasn't."

Chari smiles back to Sasha "I have had a little experience with the sensory stones but not much. I can have my patrols on the lookout for the stone but it will take some time to recover it with no leads to it's whereabouts."

Hograth focuses on the stone to experience the memories and emotions stored in it. Shaking his head afterwards, to clear his mind, he adresses the women.

"The help of your squad would be greatly appreciated, Measure Chari. I will also instruct my troops to find those eho assaulted that Modron and I invite your squad to join us in this task."

He then smiles at Sasha, thinks about what she said before answering. "The one who recorded the stone might not have stolen it to gain acesss to it but to denie others the opportunity to access it. As long something exists it can be used, regardless how well it is locked away.

As Measure Chari said the Harmonium will of course assist and help the Sensates to regain the stolen... missing stone."

Chari salutes Hograth and once it's returned, gives a warm smile to Sasha "I will inform my sub-commanders immediately about the misplaced sensory stone. She leaves his office, quietly closing the door.
