Yes, hopefully some factions tolerate this kind of behaviour, to an extent.

You can be very social about your anti-social character without brooding in darkness and secrecy =)

...that doesn't make much sense. :P Anti-social simply means they don't value human interaction that much, such as a hyper-intelligent wizard who doesn't feel like doing small talk with 'simple minded folk.'

"Anti-social" behavior is perfectly acceptable, no one has ever been banned for that. It's probably not going to get you anywhere though. But as Strawberry Jam says, there's difference in OOC and IC anti-social behavior. Same as there's a difference between a an IC jerk and OOC jerk, or any other IC and OOC separation. The best players can do is distance themselves from the weaknesses of character and instead acknowledge them in the emotes.

Like an anti-social character would likely be mostly emote driven character, you'd find ways for them to speak by what they do more than their words. Latter of which they may not even be good at, but former of which they could still be a savant at.

Like acting a pantomime or using stage whispers, there are lots of ways of getting the audience involved in how anti-social you are that can be enjoyable and interesting for everyone. =)

We're talking about anti-social behaviour while I was mainly mentioning characters whom are simply introverted and who do not socialize a lot, because they have many reasons to do so : they are secretive, they're shy, they do not see the point, they are very selfish, they are akward etc...

Nothing wrong in playing those... but at the same point anyone making a character that deliberately avoids other characters is going to find out that those concepts just simply don't work in a multiplayer RP environment. Because people lose very quickly their interest on characters that actively try not to engage into dialogue with them. So for the purposes of promoting a faction with those; I'd suggest not trying, because it just won't work out unless you find some way to force your character into active roleplaying status with others.

There's reason why lonewolf characters only work in movies and books. :P In reality nobody can hear their thoughts.

Although I realize that this is not the general definition of the term, the psychological definition of "Antisocial" generally refers to individuals who are uninterested in or antagonistic to social practices and whose behavior is often criminal. For context, Sociopaths and Psychopaths are two different types of Antisocial Behavior Disorder. Neither are necessarily lone-wolves or shy, although it's not likely they'll have emotional attachments to others.

Depending on the faction (*cough*Doomguard*cough*) someone with Antisocial Personality Disorder could very easily make a wonderful and driven character that would do a lot to further the goals of the faction and still be charming and socially competent all the while manipulating and exploiting others to further their own goals.

Eh plenty of the traits I cited are common among characters who have high ranks and/or who are well known/established :P, but none of them are anti-social. Because let's face it, I doubt a lot of people playing here are real life social butterflies. Climbing the ranks in a faction also requires a lot of personal dedication and creativity, that doesn't involve begin your character to be very sociable beyond what is necessary.

I've generally meant that if you want your character to get to places, you're going to have to actually get involved. I know there are some people who are practically playing in SCoD all single-player like and very few in the end care about them despite them even making fully fleshed out biographies and such. Marketing to me is just an active effort of bringing visibility to the character, not that your character has to be going infront everyones face and tell them that they're the best. The best kind of marketing is just being very active and publicly accessible, all the while making the faction philosophy appear appealing and functional.

With my Xaositect I didn't spend all that much time with the "in your face, gotcha!" stuff. I instead spent an extensive amount of time for misinformation, leaving around things that were out of the ordinary, and pushing people against each other. Like with the alias Stephen Hyphen ("guvner") and also Justicar Ice.. or "Just Ice" as a punny "Mercykiller" name, the S.I.G.I.S. was just a playfield for getting the respective factions to waste time double checking details and send them to wild goose chases. The said Xaositect even faked "an anarchist safehouse" where you could find citizenship documents for sir Just Ice... documentation form example which was gained from Rhistel Aidan even, by being a menace. Few times they even "closed gardens for maintenance" with a signpost, closed a couple of roads... the sort of disorder people aren't accustomed to handling.

That kind of stuff makes visibility, everyone knows someone's behind it, and the effort is reflected in it. And it's an open invitation to interaction even in public.
