"Touch me again and you die"

She groaned, hands over her eyes still embarrassed thinking back to her complete overreaction to Nastasia's exhuberent and over-friendly greeting. But...it had been a shock. Second time in her life lips had been pressed to hers and, this time..a female tiefling...turning up invisible infront of her, lips locked to hers before she revealed herself to Naya and the others in the Festhall. Kelth had tried to step in knowing something of Naya's reservations, Marek had gone all peculiar on watching and was helped out to calm down a little, his own reaction a little odd to say the least. She regarded the back of her right hand where she still felt the impression of Nastasia's cheek to it on making that backhanded slap the instant after the kiss. Tense? Nastasia had said of her. Quite. Nearly everything about Sigil made her so..always on her guard, wondering if she will ever feel at ease to 'loosen' up a bit. Naya made a point of apologising afterwards to Nastasia for her behaviour.

Piri had told her only a little during her time away. She'd noted that far island in the distance on Thalasia, where the daylight and sunshine seemed to shine brightly across all the others. Piri had pointed it out saying only that her two other fathers were there - the shining one and the lord. She could guess the one but was unsure of the other. She did not feel inclined to make the journey there just yet. Strong reluctance to deal with that issue won over her usual curiosity this time.

It is said that time in Elysium can help one forget, that the place is full of old heroes petitioning to retire there just for that reason. Naya found it peaceful, relaxing. But she felt she was a long way from resting on her laurels. After afew days to herself, Piri did not hang about for long once Kelth had helped catch her and brought her there - Piri no longer worrying about remaining invisible anymore like she had done back home in Elturel - Naya headed back to Sigil city through the portal.

Kelth has taken his own journey, leaving it seems many friends behind wondering and at least one wishing to join him. I wished him well and hoped that he finds peace of heart but, unlike Marek, I did not wish to join him. Somethings have to be done alone and for oneself. He has his own path and destiny to follow but if he needs my help, he only has to ask. I have few friends here but I count him as one and yes...I find myself missing him too, he is very personable and easy going...trustworthy and I value his advice. Seems he left Marek and perhaps afew others to look out for me in his absence. Not sure what to make of that. Should I trust whomever Kelth takes as friend as a friend also to me? Or would that be foolhardy?

I have had a few noteworthy experiences lately, not counting Nastasia's kiss. Firstly, listening to some beautiful music played on a harp by an elf I had not seen before. The first time I have heard that instrument played, but somehow it sounded familiar. I was drawn to its magical sweet notes and the skilled playing.

Secondly, I have been training alot by myself, made the trek to the ruins and fought the Khaasta rabble and survived 'by the soft down of my feathers' ((*)) and spent a lot of time beneath the city smiting wererat and orc. I managed to find the portal to a plane of ice and sliced through lizardlike creature there as well before falling foul of powerful shaman magicks. I left in a hurry as my protective magics were easily dispelled but accompanied Scairt and Nastasia later to explore the caves deeper. Scairt is strong warrior and friendly enough for his sort of dwarf and Nastasia for all her flirtatious airs, is highly competent with her darker magic and that greatsword she wields. As part of my effort to continue to apologise to Nastasia, I offered her my help when she looked troubled. Abyssal nature quite the contrast to my own, horns and tail aside I do not judge a book by its covers, though in truth, I doubt I will ever 'not' be wary when in her presence. She did not take me up on my offer...well, I tried.

I spent a little time with Marek but still have a way to go before I count him as friend despite his obvious brotherly like feelings towards Kelth. I learnt only a bit of those odd powers he wields. They are no godly gift as I have so been blessed.

I have been thinking more on Kelth's invitation to join this 'clan' group. I see Piri has quickly put her name forward..anything for a party that one. I am not sure. I will either be a party-pooper or...it might help me to get to know some more people. I'm still thinking on it.

((*ooc - I wrote "skin of my teeth" then felt I had to swap it to something more celestial appropriate heh))

Smiling, I watched Piri sitting in that large basin of water, playing with the bar of soap, splashing around and chirping happily about various things: the 'cute' elf Siomir with the nice hair who promised to pay for a big bath of hot water whenever she wanted it, her new partnership with the dwarf potion maker named Firtraad, the feather in the lady Jade's hat and a new tail to play with on a lady called "Shadow" and mutterings over the fun she'd had shooting the 'wormies' underneath the City.

Sometimes, just occasionally..she can be so so adorable.

As for myself, I showed the elf the baths and refused his offer to pay for a private one. We looked on when zombie and then a construct both used the public baths - one leaving bits of itself within (I wonder how often those pools are cleaned) and the other ended up 'zapping' when it lowered itself into the water and then disintegrated. I noticed that he noticed my form and the humps and tried to keep eyes lowered and hood and cloak well around me. "Was I a bigger version of Piri" he asked. Hardly. I made to depart and managed to withdraw my hand in time before he would have kissed it..I think that was just meant to be a friendly gesture....but...as Piri so 'kindly' explained to him before I could politely set him down, I don't like to be touched...and certainly not by strangers. Piri had buzzed off and I left him to explore the city further for himself.

Piri looked up then from her bathing, most of the water having sploshed onto the wooden floor and the soap bar had skitted across the room out of her hands.

"Oh...Marek was looking for you" and she wiggled her eyebrows at me and hopped up into the air, rapidly fluttering her wings to dry herself before scooting to plump the pillow and plop down upon it to sleep.

I slipped under the bedclothes beside her thinking to try and catch up with Marek the next day if I could.

The outside of the smoking Inn seemed to be teaming with tieflings and a few others, one or two I recognised but have not met properly. Voices were raised and no doubt trouble would ensue...so..I..decided to keep my distance. I skirted that crowd, noticing a grey-haired man who looked a little confused and worse for wear..a newcomer. Understanding his confusion on first arrival to this strange city, I made a start to assist him but got sidetracked by Marek who wanted to talk to me.

It was something "Hush, hush" he said. So we walked away from the Inn and spoke in low whisper to each other. He explained his trouble, became upset and tearful, is clearly feeling terribly guilty of some earlier actions of his towards a few people. He thought that, being devout, I might help in some way. I wanted to. Touching his arm tentatively, I tried to project some calm and kindly presence, that might help to soothe him. I suggested some time on Elysium to relax and promised to pray to Chauntea on his behalf, who has been my guide these years. I've not a huge amount of experience in dealing with feelings of anger and upset ...but my guess it is a question of learning to control...tighten resolve not to let it...effect you.

We stopped then for a drink and some food in the Inn, the earlier group had dispersed. I let him take the ale he had bought me, not one for alcholic drink, curious about it, but no great desire to try it at that point, but enjoyed the soup very much. Over his shoulder I spotted the newcomer again, he looked miserable and rather drunk. I was grateful that Marek was with me, not sure I would have approached the man in that state on my own but it was obvious he did need some help. Between us we managed to learn his name "Hub". The poor man had been accidentally transported by some error in wizardry magic through a portal and was quite lost in all that is Sigil. I don't blame him at all but was at a loss as to what to do, utterly grateful that Marek could provide the physical support the man needed. Once more, seeing the tears I lent forward to gently touch his arm to comfort and suggested...that a spot of sunshine would help sober him. The sun is wonderful for both ailment and depression and could surely do no harm. Marek was in favour and shouldering Hub, we took him up the stairs and through the portal to the plane of Elysium.

Some quiet time on the beach and in the warmth of the sun with gentle prompting we spoke of Sigil and the planes, the lady of Pain and the ways of planes, doors, keys and portals. I am not sure he took it all in but after a stroll on the beach, a paddle in the sea and the feel of sand between our toes, he seemed a little happier. I kept my eyes averted this time from the shining light of the far island in the distance. Marek seemed to enjoy the time spent there too and was himself cheerier than he had been earlier. Perhaps seeing another troubled soul helped to bring him out of his own.

My wing bindings felt heavy and constricting more than they ever had during that time on the beach. Probably because the last time I had been in Elysium, alone but for Piri, I had swum and moved free of them. My wings grow stronger each day I get to spend there and exercise them. Despite Piri's peals of laughter at my attempts to fly, I have managed to stay in the air for...hmm...well a short while now, but only a foot or two off the ground.

My eyes were now dry but still red from those tears. I spent the next hour in my room planning, sharpening the scythe edge with the wet stone. All that I had seen that day had drained me. I dug deep inside, I needed to find the resolve and determination to deal with this.

The excitement of exploring those new planes and the spectacle of the abyss and minauros the heat of hard battle was now tainted by the loss of a friend to the evils that lay within. Had he been taken into the depths of that cave? Or was that....monster...him? Either way, I would figure out how to rescue him, get that fiend to release the poor man from its hold...one way or another....or die trying.

*Piri fluttered about her, wondering at her silence, taking in her concentration over the sharpening, the frown on her face and the puffy eyes*

"Whatcha doin'?...Naya....whatcha up to?"

"I've a mission Piri" and I told her some of what had happened.

"Naaaaayyyyyaaaaa?" she poked me in the arm and my hand slipped, nicking a finger on the blade, with a grimace I sucked on the cut. "Don't you go off trying anything alone now ya hear? You get some friends to help....NAYA!" she pouted and scolded, hands on her tiny hips.

"Like who? I hardly know anyone to trust them...with this...no I will somehow manage" Piri was now nearly screaming in fey fury at her.
"You get those few you saw him talking to....that...that guard fella....the lady Cat, the big guy ...Naya...pleeeeeaasseeee..." Piri tugged hard on a handful of her golden hair "..there be others...yeah....that cuss of a yellowskin gith who got you both there the first time should help....he speaks the devil tongue...mebbe that little lady Jade with the feather...yeah...and ME!"

"I've already asked another to help me....he understands what I must do" I reassured her "...and there is no way you are coming with me little one...it's too dangerous for a squirt like you"

She huffed at me then and flit out of the room muttering something about going out to 'round up' a 'possy' of friends to help her angel.

Its eyes were full of hatred upon Naya and her own locked upon its evil form. Karath'rok translated one part of the infernal "...he said ...that I should ...keep you on leash...or he will have to put you ...down"
She gasped, her scythe held higher "T..tell him, I will run him through unless he brings the man back.."
"Your threats run with impunity" It grinned at her wickedly...it did speak common after all.
She shouted his name at the creature then, hoping to encourage the man out of the devil.
With a half sob, still fiercely confronting the devil form "I..have no choice...if you are still within...fight it...." and she stepped forward prepared to slice it through if that was what it would take..."I beseech you...."
It laughed as it moved a step forward toward her. "Such tears...of what?! Care for this...human?!" it spat as it spoke the last word.
"...by the grace of all that is good...He's lost.....that....thing" she was herself almost spitting out the words "..has taken over...
It turned it's back to her, laughing as it did so. "I have...more pressing matters to attend to" and it headed deeper into the cave.

There was nothing she could have done. Not then.

Two people went up higher in my estimation yesterday for their good deeds and quick responsive thinking.

A girl in rags came rushing up to the Inn terrified of something following her. It was evident she was a slave and we found out soon enough that she had run away from her master...a mindflayer of all things. There were a number about, Karath'rok, Hub, Elrik and Asteria arrived also plus a number of elven types, two were dark skinned. We bustled the girl inside the inn and it was Elrik, on hearing of the mindflayer and to the girl's scared words that her master could literally "smell" out her mind, sought to protect her by having me cast a protective spell that would see her immune to her master's influence at least for a few hours until we had sorted how to help her further. Asteria, had the idea then to help her to Elysium to hide and I suggested that my...companion Piri, whom I now know comes from Thalasia, might see her safely to one of the islands and peoples there. The plan was set, quickly acted upon, I dashed upstairs to call upon Piri from the room I rented while Elrik guarded the door to the upper rooms ensuring none would pass. With explanation and reassurance, Asteria settled the girl, Piri agreed to take her there on my say and we saw the two safely through the portal to that plane. A job well done.

Down in the Inn again only moments later, the mindflayer lord showed his ugly head and confronted the crowd in the Inn. One of the dark elves instantly cast his wards and strong words and demands were bandied between the creature and the elven kin and the gith...no love lost between those. I noted Asteria kept a hand to her sword ready to bring out if trouble arose, Elrik and I stood quietly guarding the door to the rooms, saying only that the girl had left. The mindflayer realising that he was outnumbered, departed. After some quiet conversation with Elrik and a passing of thanks to both him and Asteria, I left the Inn a little later to take a stroll.

I caught up with Karath'rok and joined him in a journey to the ice plane. Our combined skills did decently against the salamander, elemental and frost giant. While he is stronger warrior than I by a long way, my own skills were tested and needed, not found wanting I think. However, on returning to the Inn somewhile later, I think I managed to offend the gith when I tried to 'vouch' for him to another human newcomer who had drawn arms against Karath'rok, calling him 'fiend'. I swiftly realised this man was completely clueless and tried to dissuade him from violent action...with difficulty. I need to make amends to Karath'rok for my turn of phrase that offended. He is a proud creature. I need to think before I speak when tired and trying to help others in future.

After chasing her tail, Piri then started to play with the lady Deirdre's titania red hair, stroking it, snuggling into it as she sat on her shoulder as her man, Titus, looked on fondly at Piri with a grin "She likes attention to her hair" but finishing her play, Piri had left those locks of hair knotted and tangled. Skipping off the shoulder, while the two tried to help the soldier Card with his concerns over finding a portal back home, standing near to the door entrance to the Smoking Hammer Inn, Piri noted the robed man with red eyes and, lifting the bottom edge of the robe slightly, asked "whacha hiding under there?" to be warned to steer clear of his "hidden weapons" and mind her tongue else it would be cut out. In a huff, she scooted away to give him wider berth.

Hearing Card once more talk of finding the portal home, Piri chirped in "Piri knows portals!....Piri went to visit Toril and came back again" and with a sly grin told him that for 5000 jink, half now, half on portal opening she would help him find the key to return to his home. The duergar Scairt then managed to catch her as she was flitting around, his great paws around her waist. She cried out "Help, help, he is hurting me" and the man Card now interested in her as his potential means to get home, ordered the dwarf to release the fey. With pathetic expression and pouting bottom lip "ouchies" she said, rubbing her waist, pretending to have been hurt.

Whether she really knew the way back to Toril was neither here nor there. She would get her money and have fun teasing the man. She flitted off in search of her next source of fun...following closely behind a handsome Harmonium guard on his patrol with a naughty glint in her eye.

I think we had a reasonable understanding as we joined forces to explore undersigil, the soldier of Amn, Card and I. He would tolerate my divine assistance for healing only as the last resort. It is my nature to help where I can and I would not let the man die if it was in my powers to save him. I do not understand his aversion to spellcasting. Far as I am concerned we must all use our given gifts and skills as our makers and gods favoured us with. He seeks the door home. I told him to seek the Sage or the tour operator, Marius who seems to know much about the city. I could not help him.

A little training with Elrik later had us both falling through a loose floor into a chamber, plunging down into a pool and getting soaked with some water beast chasing us down. A swift, but sodden swipe of the scythe saw its end and we dragged ourselves back out of the tunnels. Marek appeared out of nowhere and tried to assist with a campfire but that area is dangerous to linger, full of thugs and harlots. My wings were heavy and dragging in their bindings. I could hear the water sloshing in my boots and armour and was fearful of rust. I left them to head to the Inn to dry and get fresh change of clothing.

I met up again with Elrik outside the Inn and we were approached by the harp player again, the elf Amir. His dusty badge showed him to be a member of the Bleak Cabal. I had to leave to sort an errand out and returned to find them in hard debate. I was interested in knowing more of the bleakers and, for the experience, I accepted his offer to take me to a tour to their factol house. This might count towards my initiation that I hoped to have soon with the Society of Sensation. I still had some reservations on joining.. "hedonists" Amir had called them "who are prepared to do anything" or use those 'stones' otherwise....and Elrik gave me an odd look when I expressed my intention to join this faction. I had heard of those 'stones' and as I was not prepared to do 'anything' to explore and experience all that I wished to...I was hopeful that the stones would be my salvation for a fruitful membership.

"Hello there" Piri smiled and pat her heart as she approached Elrik and Marek standing by the fence of the Smoking Hammer Inn "Just had a date with a zombie and boy! it was scary"

"Didn' pay fer food, or bein' tryin' ta make 'is dinner then?" Marek asked.
She wiggled her finger at him "You are funny!" she giggled watching Marek wiggle his finger back at her in an attempt to do so as fast "An' so are you!" he chuckled.
Elrik just stood there blinking.
"Nope...was a play date...I was playing it was trying to scare me...but I wasn't really scared..uh uh"

She fluttered between and around the two men "Whacha doin?"
Marek turned to Elrik "Yeah, wha' is ya doin' ou' 'ere by the pos'?"
"Jus standin'" Elrik stated.
"That's a bit borin' aint it?" she quipped.

"Hey you..Fey creature! I have a counter offer for you"
"Oh hello" Piri's eyes glinted on seeing the soldier Card arrive. "Counter offer eh?" and she rubbed her chin.
"What if I pay one thousand now and you'll show me wher the portal is? Yes? and I'll give the rest to you once I see it working."
"Hmm..."
"I have the money right here!" Card tapped at a rather large belt pouch.
"Ya askin' money fer tha location of a portal?" Elrik asked the pixie.
She placed her hands behind her back and turned to Elrik with an innocent expression plastered on her face. "So...?"
"'ey now cutt'r, let 'er do 'er thing.." Marek muttered over to Elrik.
Piri buzzed over to face Card "Listen mister...information like I have don come cheap....'an there's magics to be done..." she wiggled her nose pondering his offer.
"I understand, this is just to find the real location! Until I get the rest of the go-..jink." said Card.
"Ain no sense in not brinkin' out on a bit o' jink now an' 'gain, eh?" Marek smiled across to Elrik who replied only with a "Right.."
Card frowned towards Piri "You didn't mention of witchcraft earlier.."
Piri counted what was involved on her tiny fingers "..people to talk 'n persuade fust.." then retorted to Card "Well ye didn't ask!"
He sighed and shook his head "Is there no other way?"
"So..tell ye what" she continued...out 'o the goodness 'o me heart..instead of the half..I'll take the two thousand jink from ye now...so I can do that persuading" she fluttered around a bit, glancing back slyly at Card."No other way..no siree"
"Now then Piri tha's a bit o'er the top.." Marek told her.
She gave a tiny sniff towards Marek "Already come down from two and half thousand I have.."
"But..I dont' have that kind of jink!" Card then had an idea and lifting a pointed finger gesturing for her to wait "Hold on, maybe this will do instead?" and he lifted out a small handaxe to show her."This one is enchanted, maybe it'll make a fair price"
She saw the worth of the axe after studying it, thinking maybe to keep it than sell it and after a few seconds "Ye got yourself a deal mister" she wiggled her fingers then snatched up the axe stashing it into her invisible pack, the axe itself becoming invisible in turn.
"Show me where it is now, please?" Card gestured with some haste with his hands.
"Hmmm..I got to set some things up first...like I done told ye...but doncha fret now mister..." she held her hand once again to her heart "Piri will get ye sorted." and she fluttered her lashes at him, trying to look honest.
"Should I wait here, or..?"
"No no..go about ye business...I'll find you...say....a day or so...myeah" she nodded rapidly.
"Uh..alright...a day or two? well...alright. I'm staying in room five in case you get it ready and I'm not around..anything I can do to help you make it faster?"
"Right o!...and nope!.....aaanyway..got to dash! Toodles..jink to be made"
And the last thing she heard before she buzzed off was Marek mumble "Got the 'tention span of a dwarf on 'orse that one, good luck bein' found' 'gain"

She did a quick circuit of the block to return invisible and hidden by the building to listen to the men. A nearby drow with an eyepatch saw her however but didn't let on she was there although it seemed to want to talk to her. She motioned for him to follow her and she moved a little further away down the alley. They spoke quietly together for afew moments.
"Favour..for me..gits a favour returned mister..." she whispered and tapped her nose and winked at the one-eyed dark elf.
They exchanged names and then went about his business. The men standing by the Inn headed into the establishment no longer allowing her to overhear their conversation so she flitted off to test out the new axe she had acquired on another 'playdate' with a zombie or two.

I scribed my first scroll this day after trying to help yet another man, but a friend this time, out of his drunken state by suggesting and then watching over his dousing in the cold pool of the public baths. What is it about men that...they feel the need to turn to the bottle instead of...turning to their faith?..all I could think of was to suggest he pick up his sword and 'pray' to his goddess while striking down some foe...better the active spirit than the liquid spirit. I also advised him to seek out the 'truth' with fact before reacting too quickly to only a possibility.

The scroll I practised scribing was one of prayer after that. Seemed fitting somehow.

I bought a few other scrolls that helped enormously in the frost giant cave. The king....or chief..whatever...in the large chamber at the end near had our end. Karath'rok managed to drag my prone body out. When I came too I realised our mistake and thought of a solution. I hit the bazaar in the Cage for the right scrolls and ....we did it! the great giant fell once we had purged its invisibility. I experienced great satisfaction that I had contributed something worthwhile to that battle.
