"Quarantine those who show signs if infection, burn the corpses and stay clean. Wash your hands before eating, wash them when touching things in public places. Stay away from crowds.
As for protections... everything that makes your body more robust works of course. Also spells and items that increase the overall resistance against magical and nonmagical effects work well.
But even if you do not get infected yourself you can still transmit the disease. So wash, wash and wash yourself again."

Serin gave a wide eyed stunned look at Flara
''...wash wash wash??...''
takes a moment to absorb the blow, then speaks again
'' guess there's nae hope fer the hive then...''wash''...whew...'' gave a sighed snerk.
''how maeny healers would be needed ta contain this epidemy, granted that said healers dun die and that the sicks are managed ta get quarantined fer good? and aneeways, how's the disease treated , in detail, 'f ya kin tell?''
rubs own jawline, thinking
''and how usually this slimy doom is carried forth, appears, on tha first place , ah mean? air, water, food, sum critter vermin or whatnot or whut tha feck ah know?''
sips the tea

She listens patiently, thinks a bit.
"I cannot give you an easy answer to this. First.. there is nothing like a 'Healer'. We all have different abilities which, of course, determine what we can do and what not.
My experience shows that the best healers are those available and affordable. If you want to help gather all you can find and pay.... and then do your best."
Sips.
"As for the treatment... the nonmagical means include strenghening broths, inhalations of Purple Foxweed fumes and Mintpepper's Tea. And everything must be clean- I cannot repeat this too often. So again: wash. And wash again."
Smiles faintly, then continues.
"The magical means.... well... Remove Disease or Heal works of course. Some of the sick will require a full Restoration spell to get completely cured of course... to restore strenght to their tissues and bones."
Pauses, sips, then continues.
" The usual vectors used by this disease are certain beasts... often vermin.. insects....oozes and slimes... and water. Contact with an infectious agent is enough. No wounds or ingestion necessary. It is also one of the diseases that can be chosen by a caster when using the Contagion spell. "

''ya know if there have been past cases of slimy doom epidemy in the hive already?''

The old woman gets up, walking over to a small bookcase. After a while she finds what she was looking for, reading something, mumbling to herself.
"In the last 55 years there were 17 smaller outbreaks.. but only one so serious. Turned out someone infected some jinkshirts on purpose at that time.... some story of hatred and jealousy"

The Dusties start with their healing and also start giving out robes to those recruits now joining their faction.
Most recruits are volunteers a few were volunteered by ther families and many newly animated undead strenghten the ranks of the Dead.
However.... there are less dead turned into undead than expected. Sure, some dead are still burnt, some die in places hard to access or are eaten by some creatures.... but still- there should be more.
Meanwhile in the Clerk's ward...
Flara wears a simple wooden disk showing the bound hands of Ilmater on a string around her neck- the only outwardly sign of her faith.
She listens to Serin, then sighs.
"I heard some rumours.... and what you just told me fits to what I heard." While she is preparing some tea for her guest and herself she goes on.
"The hive is a dirty place...natural outbreaks happen...and adventurers carry the most exotic diseases into Sigil through the portals."
The tea ready she sets a simple cup with steaming tea down in front of Serin, then pours herself a cup as well.
"What make you think this plague is different?"

Serin grabs the cup, toying idly with it, arms folded, actually peering and sniffing at the content discreetly, as she speaks
''the disease itself am nae sure if it is *that* different. sure violent an' bad to watch. thou' the sods of tha infirmary said they can't figure it out. nae like they're geniuses eh, but still. even sum healers of theirs got ill from it. an' the dusties would be tha only one to have found a cure fer it? pfft. well, maybe someone else competent nuff shou'd check on the disease too?'' looks at flara.

"It ended with a few hundred dead, the Harmonium enforcing a curfew for two weeks and several smaller outbreaks in undersigil afterwards- as some infected retreated to the tunnels."
Sips, empties her cup, looks at Serin again.
"If you want to dive deeper into this matter I would advise you to be very suspicious... as well as very careful."

The dustmen would repeat the process each day for the next two days gathering what strength they could for their faction. At the end of thee two days having read what was published in Sigis Emila would stand at the entrance to undersigil. She would first cast a persistent detect undead spell and then with a moments concentration the vampire's physical body would melt away and a light grey mist would rise up from it and rift through the tunnels and pipes of undersigil in search of one of the plague infested undead she had heard about.
