I think it unlikely that the gui is going anywhere. What is in discussion is whether or not we will keep the "instant-copy" feature.

Though they still have it IC. :>

But the one thing remains - you can't copy character overhead name, so the impostor is know OOC-ly. Which falls under having to wait for consent to RP it, anyway.
The only race with perma TS is Baatezu, as I know.
It's actually only Erinyes. It's just that a replacement See Invisibility was given to a base race, where it should be moved to the Erinyes PrC. Explicitly, Brachinas don't have this ability IC-ly. It's something they don't carry over when promoted from scout Erinyes to Brachinas in PnP.

I do not see any point why it should be gone. It just saves your time and gives no mechanical advantage. Just an rp thing that saves your time. I would understand if it copied PC name, but it does not do that.

I suggest not to remove it right away and see how it goes.

It makes one dimensional RP and is just a deliberate disruptive tool to force other characters to react to it. One click to be someone else, and others don't have any quick methods to see through it without having to get your consent that True Seeing functions (as per rules, I mean we just had this discussion in that dragon thread), metagaming hovering name, getting to see everyones badges from now on, yada yada.

I'm all for RP, but doppelgangers are pretty much one shot plot features, not persistent world lingering things. A once discovered doppelganger is more or less end of plotline.

I don't really see anything big and creative really come out of this, just a boring and inevitable manhunt after doppelgangers screwing things up for prominent characters becomes a common knowledge. And then listening to moaning about how terrible it is for doppelgangers after a while.

It's just better to cut it short and instead prevent them from getting to the easy pitfall, and instead force them to put effort into it and likely encourage different venues of RP rather than copying other player characters.

Not many people have that much time to be spending it on editing every part of armor to make it look right. Time is everything. Again I suggest to see if it causes any troubles. No need to judge a new feature like that instantly.

Given how different are costume parts and how hard it is to match it perfectly, players often keep notes in their journals for colors.

Good luck copying that flawlessly without a copy outfit function...

I agree completely.

I feel here the point is about whether it should be *that* easy to copy parts, or if it would be, on the other hand, right that a player puts effort to copy accurately another character. The latter would imply a good amount of time spent studying this character, not just in appearance but also in their behaviour and attitudes.

On the other hand the instant copy feature I saw today just looked really amazing and it was extremely cool to see somebody zapping into the exact copy of my character.

I am indifferent to either position, in the end.

That exactly what Doppelgangers usually do.

Copying outfits isn't that hard, you don't need to get exact numbers for the outfits to work. Nobody's going to get the two characters at the same time and compare exact colors with each other. So it's hardly that big issue... and very few are going to check every single armor part either, just the key identifying features which are fast and simple to get right. And no it's not exactly rocket science to get good enough outfit.

I'm not going to lie, it's mechanically very well made feature. But I don't think it's a feature that's going to make better roleplay at large. Only lazier and more prone to drama, and I don't think it's a question of if, just when.
