Lady von Hertzog makes her grand inspection of the warehouse a few days after its acquisition. Roaming around the premises, she seems to take mental measurements of its dimensions and architecture, as well as its potential access to the sewers of Undersigil. After a few hours she sends a missive to Measure Chari, declaring the warehouse adequate for her needs.

Within the hour, crates begin arriving at the warehouse from the nearest portal to Phlegethos; toted either by surly teams of Abishai, or Sensate Namers who wish to have the experience of heavy manual labor. Contained within the crates are three Hell Hound bitches from her personal kennel back in Phlegethos, along with their respective litters of pups; along with assorted equipment for training both hound and handler, and for feeding the hounds.

Pauk, along with Udar, decide its necessary to get a feel for what is going on in Under Sigil. Learn which criminal operations are ongoing, who is in charge of the gangs, etc.

While he was all for an information network being established, he wanted this more as cover, the obvious "secret" network. He would rely only on first hand information himself, and if necessary, sell out a few agents in order to keep improve his own position.

Using their familiars, stealth skills, invisibility, and wildshape, as necessary and appropriate, they would spend a week or so, learning everything they could.

On occasion, they would kidnap an lone Orc or human or whatever, take them to an abandoned cellar, cast some spells protecting against spying and divination, and go to work extracting information. It mattered not how much information was gained really, the torture of weak beings gave both immense pleasure.

((Sorry for the lack of updates on my part, totally focused on other things at the moment (scripting mainly)... same reason not been in game much as either player or DM. Pauk is just going to keep his eyes open and for opportunities and stuff and let things hang unless something starts happening here... yeah, i know, DM, should be driving things... well, all i can say is "poo to that" lets see some player input ;) ))

Under Sandre's supervision the Harmonium handlers, chosen by Measure Chari, begin training with their appointed pups. The first task is training the hounds to obey commands over their own hunger. The handlers are each given a slab of meat (which Sandre doesn't bother to identify) and told not to give it to their pup until it learns to not take it from their hands.

"Strike them one either side of their face near the base of the jaw when they attempt to grab it from you. Be sure to do so with enough force to serve as a sharp lesson, but without damaging the hounds. For this self-same reason, distribute the blows evenly between the left and right where possible, and do not strike the snout or ears as a deaf hound or one lacking the ability to smell properly is near enough worthless.

Once these pups have been conditioned properly in this matter, their later training in not eating pedestrians will be much more simple."

Measure Chari watches the training when she has the spare time, her curiosity getting the best of her as she wonders how the rearing will go. Chari watches the recruits closely in their training and any she feels that will not make the final cut are politely dismissed to their previous duties and assignments. Measure Chari wants only the most capable handling the hell hounds and an extensive background check as well as a mental stability test are part of the try outs.

Also she does inquire with the Harmonium blacksmith and is seen in his armory for the next few days as she works with him to create a special edition Harmonium armor set and matching helmet. Any questions asked of the blacksmith about this project will only elicit a tight lipped smile as he goes about his business.

Phase II

Law and order, in the streets of Under Sigil. An interesting challenge...

Billy was an orphan, living in the Orphanage until he grew into his teens, at which point he was told he was old enough to leave. He had already been running with the gangs by this point so not so much of a transition.

However, when he had almost been caught by the Harmonium after mugging an elderly man in the Bazaar one anti-peak he had decided to lie low in Under Sigil for a while. The marks down here had less jink generally speaking, but at least no stinking hardheads.

He lie in wait in the dark alleyway, cudgel at the ready, waiting for a likely looking target.

He felt an itching on his leg. Looking down he sees a small spider, and slaps it, crushing it. "Damn spiders everywhere." he mutters.

Another itching, this time on his neck. He reaches behind to brush the spider away, but whatever it is touching him is too big for a spider.

He tries to turn, run, and scream all at the same time.

He doesn't stand a chance, the giant spider sinks its fangs into Billy's neck, the poison coursing into his bloodstream, paralyzing his muscles and freezing the forming scream in his throat.

Pauk steps out of the shadows and looks at the body "A minor thug. Hardly worth the effort. Not like some of the ones we have hunted. Still, one less criminal on the streets" he chuckles and turns to a looming form behind him "Udar, i don't believe our pets have eaten today. Make sure they are fed. Ill meet you later, i have a meeting to attend."

Pauk saunters off into the night, he has little worry or fear of being attacked by unknown assailants.

Perhaps law and order is not so much of a challenge...

After a few days and countless fittings, the armor and matching helmet are complete. Chari thanks the blacksmith with promised days off and the best pickings from her garden as she also pays him for the materials used then sets off the Bazaar.

After the handlers and their pups have become more familiar with one another, Sandre leads a group of prisoners (bound ankle and wrist) into the kennel. With a few muttered words and a wave of her hand, paper-thin padding is conjured around their bodies. She then turns to the handlers.

"These prisoners under the care of an associate of mine in the Mercykillers have cheerfully agreed to participate in our next training exercise in order to reduce their daily scourging. "

Looking at the prisoners, one imagines that they had been told that they would be receiving significantly more padding than they got.

"You will train your pups to obey both an 'attack' and 'cease' command."

She hands each handler a long pole with a bit of meat attached to its hooked end.

"Use this to direct your hound's efforts by tapping or hitting the prisoner where you want your pup to strike, and the smell of the meat should encourage it to follow your orders. Focus on the ankles, hamstring and groin, as attacking those is the most expedient way of disabling your opponent. Be sure to reward obedience and ferocity and punish the opposite."
