Before the first subject was brought in the warlock had a summoned succubi join him in the interrogation chamber. Heavily lacerated and exausted from what one only could assume was torture. He led her into the arms of the nearest guard.
"Good you did the only sensible thing. Why die for someone else for the sake of loyalty? Never could understand those that did. Why suffer when one have the choice not to." He turned to the guard. "If she decline our offer of amnisty within our ranks off-plane release her as promised after three days."
Of course it was a theatrical set up. The tactic were to instill the alluring way out as very real. Submersion in total darkness of despair would ony make the subject give up completly and were there any hope left it would be for death. No he needed to hold that bitter silver of false hope in his own hand making the darkness engulf around the demon until all it could seewas that becon of light.
He turned to the captive as the succubi was led away with a sadistical grin. Sparkeling with a darksome joy. A glee seen only in the malevolent creatures as they held total domination over another. Gesturing towards the prepared seat.
"Have a seat." Expecting the guards to force the creature to the Cold Iron bladed seat strapping it with a barbed chain of the same material.
Taking a vial of Holy Water from the table behind them he sprinkled some on the captive, sizzling as the liquid was fretting as acid on its scaly flesh with a rising steam cloud.
"This is all endured needlessly. We alredy know. Everything is lost. All I need you for now is confirming that she didn't lie to us. If your answer differs from hers I will know either of you is lying. A lie in this instance equals pain and very prolonged death. Now tell me where is the ship. Where is Vassarion. Who controls Vassarion and his operation?"
Leaving the holy water vial o the table with his back now turned on the fiend. Mauric slid a long but thin blade from his left arm plated prothese. One edge was sawtoothed while the other was plain straight no thicker than a finger. Dipping the Cold iron needle-like blade into the vial. Holding it point down a wreathing eerie flame slithered from his clasp and downward small droplets dripping to the ground forming a small burning pool
"Do you even know the sensation of burning fire? It hurts being born and it hurts being unborn. The entrapment of flesh is a curse for demon and human alike. If there was such a thing as a holy hell it would lick pieces of your flesh from your bone right now." With that he stinged the hellfire infused blade into the Tanar'ri being very careful to avoid any vital parts or doing anything that would numb it.
"Tell me what I want to hear and you may go. I can even offer you the safty of another plane of your own choosing would you desire it. I will leave you to contemplate."
With that he hung the vial over the demons head. A small crack in it made drops of the substance trickle down slowly boring deeper and deeper into the fiends skull and would of course eventually fret through.
This would be repeated with several subjects to get more coherent answers to sift from the lies. The prisoners wouldn't be released just yet howerver and were kept seperatly. He constantly reminded the guards to let them see as little of their newly acquired base as possible.

Knowing the situation was relatively stable for now. Varnia opened a portal to return back to Sigil, she tried to bring a few more reinforcements with her, however the size of her portal was quite limited and a few travels where necessary to bring about 20 more soldiers. She also picked some supplies and ammunition putting them in a bag of holding.

The search for fugitives, and the torturing of demons, went on for weeks. Lots of names and layers and possible hideout names were given by the prisoners in the process, but almost never collaborated.
Finally, one location name came up multiple times: the town of Broken Reach, on the first layer of the Abyss. Several demons insisted that Vessarion and Takis had contacts there, and might possibly be hiding out there as well.

The warlock considered the intel while black blood trickled from his cold iron dirk. He was no stranger to the Broken Reach. Perhaps they had fled there losing support for their campaign, searching for new allies or thirdly setting a trap for them.
He orderered the commanders to continue on the fortification efforts. Gathering his inner circle he spoke. "We are leaving for the Broken Reach. Hide your badges and hide your faces with helmets we are Blood War mercenaries."
