Often overlooked, but there are other defense options. Sometimes AC by itself wont cut it when you get swarmed.Mick64,Aug 16 2016 wrote: have alternate defensive options

Hey party, can we go on planewalker
pc 1: that halves our exp
pc 2: We came here for exp
pc 3: think Im find another party.
Also why do we build areas for 50 + ac.((yay average ac with max gear is 47 without gimick race or cheese class). Your going need at least one tank to take point for your group but your making it next to impossible to participate in content when only a power builder is going have that. No amount of group tactics is going save your 45 ac tank in most areas even with concealment and dr.
Also I dont believe the levels for the difficulites are set right either. Is there reason why exp is so disparingly crimpling between one stage and the next? Its like difference of going from 13 exp a kill to 200+ a kill in the abyss. and then you find out the mobs only lose 2 points saves between the stages and few points ac while keeping the same attack bonus.
As it is, your encouraging not a different play style with current set up. Just encouraging "you must be this tall before you can enjoy this ride".
Mr. Werewolf was very bored at being a second hand tank that coudnt even hit the mobs and that was without the bug with buffs. Really if your pc cant do any damage to the boss when your designed to do damage, then whats the point?

The main reason people go Gatecrasher is because the XP gain is massive... and lets all admit, no one wants to spend more time grinding in a 10 year old game for the nth time. Not saying XP should come just as easily on Cutter, but the difference between could be toned down.
What Lucadia said also rings fairly true. End game areas almost all require your character to meet a set of numbers, or you're going to have a bad time. I visited Carceri with my main after about a year's hiatus, and noticed he got completely butchered by simple Farastu... Despite having 57 AC and 50 AB, that's with old RDD and Bard skills slapped on... and frankly, that isn't fun.

I think it's also a matter of build and playstyle. I see a lot of people running up to mobs and just letting auto attack or a spell routine light off. I solo the abyss with a 27 attack bonus and 40 ac.it's not easy, it's not fast, and I run a lot. But that's the point of the character. I've also seen a kobold run out there claiming he had 37 ac and surviving easily.in truth, I couldn't keep up with him, and I was on an undergeared and now deleted sacred fist.
Point is, a lot of the game would be easier if "grinding" wasn't the overruling mentality. Grinding is for areas you know you can take with minimal effort. Hell, I find better drops in limbo than in the abyss. They're painfully less frequent, but I don't run the risk of dying every twenty minutes.
On a side topic, being rewarded for rp more frequently would make leveling significantly easier. 46 xp on average on GC in the abyss on a 21 with a 20% xp hit is pretty abysmal (heh, I'm punny).

Unfortunately the way multiclass xp penalty works somewhat magnifies xp problems because of how the rounding happens. If there had been any way to turn off multiclass xp penalties and write our own instead that would helped quite a bit with those cases.Ninjamonkey,Aug 16 2016 wrote: 46 xp on average on GC in the abyss on a 21 with a 20% xp hit is pretty abysmal (heh, I'm punny).
Also, those xp penalties directly impact the rp xp rewards you get too, which is also annoying...

Whilst I always follow certain parameters to 'get the most' out of my characters, I don't think many of them would come under the 'powerbuild' aspect of a build. But I make sure all of them are capable of taking the Abyss. And pretty much all of them will be able to do that solo. I have no idea where this myth of 'can't take level 20+ areas on solo, must be a powerbuild' thing is coming from. Really, I have no clue.
My old main, Ea'raldor, was a gish wizard with only 40AC fully buffed, had pretty meh AB (around the 40's using an Outsider Hunter) and only crit for 70's. And I took Abyss on GC every day I felt like it >_>

Taking cleric is a powerbuild, let's be honest.
