I think you're playing an entirely different game Jelika. Casters don't start with level 9 spells at level 1 =)

I've never been on a server with so much pandering to melee folks. All these items, regen, maybe 3d6 extra damage +5 and more on a weapon, npc can cast buffs on you, even in low level areas you can farm scrolls so anyone is a scrollcase wizzy, extra feats to help, easy and cheap wands, you can easily buy summons that outdo what a caster can summon in most cases. Sure you can get something for "free" to fight for you all of 5 seconds before you recast, but remember, no resting!

Then you get the feats made for fighters, and the fact no monster really seems immune to getting smashed up, but a 35 save isn't that rare. There's so much pandering not even counting what NWN2 devs did to give a boost up to melee, and yet people still complain as if it's a low magic old NWN server. I can't think of anything the staff has done to improve the original spells except take a few out

Now you want sword magic, but it has to be cooldowns because hey, you don't want to rest to recover your sword spells.

Isn't this just a case of.... gasp.... wanting it all?

The reason why it's good to have so much "pandering" to melee folks is because the alternative is that everyone are casters. Poor design ideas from WotC and Obsidian shouldn't be used as reasoning for not trying to make them better. :P I mean this is a computer game, so designing it for computer environment rather than PnP is pretty much mandatory. It's not a small control group where everyone has their role, it's a public server where every random stranger can pop in and are required to go through the same challenges regardless of what class they may be, so they need to be able to meet the same challenges just the same.

As for the reason why spells haven't been upgraded quite as much... well because they already got all the answers. And they still do get new spells and items every now and then regardless of the gap between casters and non-casters.

More dull than the typical "2 minute buff sequence" cleric?

As was mentioned, your ab will be so-so. So will your ac (armor optimization feats maybe?). You don't have any sort of reliable heal (not a fighter class skill) if you happen to have an unlucky burst of damage delivered to you. I don't think you'll deal enough damage to kill PB.

New martial feats could give you the edge. Maybe Stone Dragon, if it even works on PB.

You need to catch some wand crafters, if only for the crit immunity.

Having a wand of haste and an electrifier could speed things up a bit.

Not sure what you mean with 3 6 9 feats, but I don't have any new feats, I picked 2 for heavy armor optimization only from new ones I think. It is just a standard hunker down fighter with hitpoints and using constitution bonus for all my save.

I think paladin would be easier because they get spells, divine might/shield, and so on. Barbarian gets totems, rage, and more hitpoints. If I was barbarian I'd get almost 300 hp while raging, and close to 1000 hp at the end with almost 20/- dr, yikes!

But I think the general assessment is right that most people build gish or semi gish with things like stormlord. Even a full barbarian with just a few dip levels could get them some interesting things maybe, like hips, umd, evasion. ^^;

I think currently least magical and most fighter like and still be somewhat awesome sauce in the upper levels youd want possibly a build like 12fighter 7wm 5 FB 6 Half-Dragon template. Do get style points for putting it on a halfling and speacilizing in Mace.

1 3 6 9 etc. Thats standard progression for gaining feats. Fighter gets that in addition to every even level so it goes 1234689 Etc.

the optimization feats are new feats. they not been around that long, which improves survivbilty .

If paladin was easy , I have wonder why we never see any.

Our setting & sigil is not that nice to paladins I think.

But we have some. Aleis and Cornellia are paladins. There was another blue one.

Actually I'd say a paladin with fighter levels sprinkled in for feats would be FAR superior to a true fighter because of divine might and the ability to use holy swords without UMD (and to turn other things into holy swords eventually). Add that, some Fist of Raziel or Stormlord, and liberal use of smiting and resting, and you've got a VERY dangerous character. Particularly if you can somehow finagle in the stats and feats to get 7 levels of weapon master...

I really don't even want to think about the maximum damage achievable with EDM, Sanctified Weapon and Holy Sword on a Starmetal x3 or x4 weapon, Smite Evil, and a WM critical hit.

Everything's easy. You don't even have to powergame/min-max to be successful here, and I think that's sort of cool.

I've also said that this is the way D&D is "balanced" where the nerdy wizards get one-shot at first level (the +15HP tattoo from the Hive Ward's Tattoo artist helps big time) and generally is very hard to solo with but will be super-bad at lvl 30 compared to their fighter counterpart.

So yeah, Joe fighter seems like he's really awesome when you're just a solo grindstar, and sure, he can hire some bad ass thugs that put most of the summons to shame, and you can prance your way to being one more level 30 Ghengis Khan loser junk-jinking chivs in the great bazaar.

But if that's your whole game, killing the monsters and maybe just selling other PCs the loot, you are missing the point and seriously missing out on the fun.

And if you stick around SCOD, you'll notice that someone else will make this topic every couple of months and it will accumulate 10+ pages. YAWN! lol
