I play Rexxer Killgore I am sure people have seen that character enough by now and I am going to tell you something about me in real life, I am socially arkward and when I am playing on sigil I sometimes feel like it is hard for me to really get involved with people in character especially when there is something I do not know IC and I try to find out like anything in general that can perhaps make me get more involved in some rp or maybe some plot thread and I find it very very difficult when I guees for IC reasons they rather not tell me about it and I do not mean the obvious erp and they leave to do that, that I understand. Though I can just talk to other characters but that starts to get really stale and feels like its not really rewarding if people do not want me around more.
I sometimes feel like I log on for hours hopping for some fun rp it has happen before when I had fun but most of the time everyone seems really to themselves or just a few people and makes me not want to even log on sometimes thinking I might be on for hours and it just was not worth it. I been playing here for almost a year now too and I always feel like its the good things that been keeping me here. I like the community and why I am being so honest here and too put it out there.
How I Feel Sometimes On Sigil

The fragrant and sometimes turbulent(interesting) rp of Sigil City of Doors have always been complex.
Naturally we have groups that tend to stay together due to IC similiar interests/goals and ofcourse the obvious factor that is that many have been here for alot of years and made strong bonds... :P Myself i started back in 2010 and ofcourse you tend to be drawn to some players more than others after experience.
No matter how you see yourself IRL this kind of roleplay offers the opertunity to become whoever you wish to become. Obviously an evil(openly douche) character will have a harder time finding friends genereally around Sigil(Even if theres alot of Shadow organisations with just these kind of people unde the surface just waiting for the evil fanatics to gather) :P
A few tips for better rp interaction experiences:
* Read up on Sigil lore:http://sigil-nwn2.wikia.com/wiki/Category:City_of_Sigil
(Theres alot on this forum including a "What has happend on this server timeline" to read up on :) Knowing the City "Powers", past events and current happenings is always a good conversation topic.
* Create your own intruiging backround story: It could be one tied to Sigil lore, or one that puts you into the same catagory with the kind of group(Race, faction, allegiance, Deity) you wish to interact with.
* Merchants!: Many of us, including myself have merchant characters offering bartering squabbles, employment for solo and group missions for those interested...and guess what...not only do you get people to interact with...you get PAID aswell! :D
* Faction rp!:, join a faction and involve yourself into the politics of that place. Check who is the most active. Find the commanding forces(Often players) higher up to take part in faction politics, missions and events.
* Join a Guild: There are alot of diffrent organisations for al alignments that can offer you a closer interaction with certain groups of people where you can take part in rp events, cermonies, missions and explorations.
There are so many possibilities. I see far to many people just standing around in the bazar for hours doing nothing (Not saying I don't do that myself when Im creating "Item descriptions" for my items that I sell but... :P )
Hope you got a tip or two that were useful :)

My best suggestion is... try to find a group that's like minded to your character (and I know that's piss hard if you're not of a pretty race) and get involved with them. You can break the ice even OOCly, most people don't mind if you ask for a hook to get involved by from my experience. I also have a warrior that doesn't get much action either, maybe the two of them could go on and do warrior things?

Always feel free to approach my Chars IC or send me a tell OOC to say you want to start a group or RP some. Frank is down to hang out with anybody. Same with Cho. Not even sure what I'm doing with Shade and Ren. . . well for being my only good character she's a bit reclusive, shy and a bit stuck up. It's really just going to depend on her mood.
I find myself in the same boat though. There's people I know and if they're on I know I'm going to get in a lot of RP. Other times I log on, don't recognize anyone or see that it's just people in the bizarre shooting the shit (which is entertaining for characters like Frank and a nightmare for chars like Ren) and then decide to grab whatever character I need to lvl. (Which is its own headache, cause thats done best in group.)
But yeah, just hit me up if you see me on. TintoMeetPellease or something like that.

Really, the thing that has worked for me is Faction politics. With Morthos, he joined the Athar. Maybe Rexxer joins a faction more suited to his goals/ideals? I've found that Faction members are more than willing to RP with you. Another thing is, get involved with Server Events, for instance the Winter Fey Attacks (which are still ongoing, technically) or events like the Gray Vizier going nuts on Sigil proper (which ended, but it's an obvious example). Or you could start your own event (grabbing a DM/EM, of course)? Maybe Rexxer decides to explore his family history, and he seeks out companions to help him?
My point is, the more you personally get involved and the more you seek to get other players involved, the more fun you will have. Your imagination is the only limit, man! :)

So that's a problem I'm having. How do we get involved in long-running server events?wrote:get involved with Server Events
For instance there's plenty on the forums about the Winter Fey, but I don't know how to get Frank hooked into that without metagaming. From what he's actually experienced in game there hasn't been a mention of the fey and from the IC forums he'd probably just see really old warning posters that have been repainted a half dozen times.
As for being swept up in an event, that's happened to me twice, once with an old legacy where I was way too low level and kept dying from a fellow player's turn undead and a couple times recently where we followed a modron through the planes. Nothing really came of it.
How does one get into these events without IC knowing about them?

An easy tie-in would be your faction. Ask what your faction is doing for Sigil, in a combat way, or something. Obviously, phrase it to be IC. But there should be someone (except maybe the Dustmen) in every faction who at least knows about the Winter Fey or other long-running server events.Pellease,Sep 30 2016 wrote:How does one get into these events without IC knowing about them?wrote:get involved with Server Events

Gets tricky if your character can't subscribe to any factional ideology, which is not very strange... All it takes is being sane and good-hearted. :X
Considering that the main peacekeeping faction out there is downright totalitarian and corrupted to the bone.

For factions the key, I imagine, is to be flexible. Even gods in this multiverse are willing to 'settle' and divinely empower people who don't match them perfectly in alignment. If you're working towards the same/similar goal, then the faction would probably, for the most part, be flexible themselves.
That being said, It'd be great to see something like PC-run sub-factions based on alternate viewpoints to the same ideology. If you can't subscribe to the exact way your faction sees things, then consider luring people to your own ideas from within.
