Doppelganger Copying Others Appearance

Why are the doppelgangers allowed to copy others appearances again? That's an absolutely terrible idea, by design it's only disruptive to others roleplay. Why disruptive? Because it's not about escaping, misleading or avoiding consequences. It's about pinning the blame on others and forcing everyone else to explain why it wasn't actually them.

I mean we had this discussion once before already: http://z13.invisionfree.com/nwn2planesc ... opic=11723

I thought doppelganger was already about as good as it could be with an extensive ability to make different forms, while still not copying others appearance. I for one have better things to do than have to potentially explain daily that "nope, it wasn't my character doing it". Not only that, but it also makes them able to more or less bypass any natural progression of ranks or influence with a click of a button.

While I agree in principal, to be fair; if someone bypassed rank by just shape shifting, well... that'd be weird without a legit badge or other gear/ equipment/ heraldry/ misc. traits to show for.

(which I suppose is more a note for EM's/ DM's to please not suddenly make the entire world turn dumb because a doppelganger shape shifted but did nothing else to carry the act out. Not that this has happened, just saying since we're apparently discussing the matter).

Uh...the whole race exists solely to mess with people...I guess I'm shocked this wasn't expected. There is literally no other race in DnD who's "neat thing" is more suited to conflict-based, frustration-breeding RP. Doppelgangers exist to troll.

Now, what would be even more epic, is if someone doppelganged (if that wasn't the word, it is now) their own stable of characters, so they could perfectly mimic their own characters' RP, did some villainous things, then lead other players on a man-hunt to expose the 'ganger. You could run an entire story arc, including the villain, and play both a hero and a bad guy, without an EM.

They exist to run the long con and accomplish something beyond defaming random individuals. If they copied targets flippantly, people would figure out there's a shapeshifter involved pretty quickly. Often when dopplegangers are assuming a form, it's because they've killed the original.

The ability they have also shouldn't automatically copy the target's clothing.

Any race with Change Self can assume someone else's identity by studying their appearance, recreating their outfit and otherwise putting in work. This effort shouldn't have been substituted with the push of a button.

Good luck making this go over without players ending up in a massive conflict.

Let me be the first one to give a heads up. If you fancy to doppel one of my characters, you'll ask my consent. No consent, no rp.:)

I am amazed the staff changed their mind on the subject, and considering who specifically asked for it back then and worked at it, I cannot help but agree: the main purpose of this race is obviously causing grief. Nice move.

I am surprised as well they changed their minds: the idea was fiercely hindered last time. I would advice to reconsider the matter, this will end up in abusing and whining.

Waaaaait. The ability copies clothing? That's, um, not something that is part of the Change form ability, and if that was discussed I missed it or forgot it. They should at least have to go get new clothes to match the person they're trying to intimidate, particularly since this would allow "hey, i'll just make the silk dress I'm wearing look like Harmonium Plate!"

And yeah, trolling to be that other person... it's absolutely within reason to ask "where's your badge" and the like, particularly in factions like Hardheads where they tend to wear a sign of their faction openly.
