I actually saw a conversation in the ooc room that went something like this:

"Can I come with you to xyz plane?"

"Do you have over 60 AC?"

"Yeah! 66 with divine shield up."

"Great, let's do it."

. . .

And people ask me why I rebuild all the time.

Roleplay is great and all. But I know that if I do not powerbuild, I can not even be considered for groups at high level- RP or not.

gtfo.

So I rebuild . . . people have scoffed at my repeated rebuilding on Brogar and now on my new character.

Sorry, but I am merely doing as instructed by the server mechanics.

im telling you now i probably have the Biggest Rebuild count on the Server with Cornello.. i have the problem of liking one idea and when it dose not turn out the way i want it to i try something else. I roleplay it as my character having been raised (and welll since he is a vampire) he has learned different combat styles and such over the years to explain his Rebuild.

Most people just RP a rebuild as the same character with little change. On Scod you don't need to RP your sheet. But if you want to be representative, like mentioned, you can come up with a character development story; characters do evolve with experiences.

I'd suggest these types are being a*sses. They should straight-up indicate 100% grind intention.

My current runs between 36 - 47AC depending on how much I want to spend on buffs in any particular area. It's not a steamroller build, but that's good enough with a bit of strategy for all locations on all difficulties for this particular build (epic dodge, no Hips). I'd need a party to kill the 3 end-game bosses in bottom carceri, though. One of the reasons I enjoy this particular character so much is that it was often claimed that this build type could never be viable.

It seems you are not running into party RP-play here, but rather steamroll grinding-play disguised as RP. I've run into lots of characters that enjoy to RP chaperones in tougher areas.

All of these areas can have good and helpful-type play potential, protecting weaker members, or pulling mobs away from casters...etc. Even with two players, you can look at the options: discuss tactics, lower the difficulty. Naturally there's going to be some minimum level requirements to avoid the xp pen and be of appropriate level.

In fact, NOT running closeness (which most players automatically run) can help in this type of party protective-play in many areas.

I'd think the convo would be:

"will you require protection".
-"yes, I think I'd need a little guarding as I might get sliced on my own"
"are you comfortable hanging back or behind a protector?" [yes=ok, no= well maybe not this time, or we can lower the difficulty if you like]
-"sure"
"you have a way to run/hide, in case you get in trouble?"
-yes ..or no ["we'll just have to be careful with you, and bring some extra contingency healing".]

Now Evil RP...well that's a different story. "you carry anything of value?"

till you need 60 ac to avoid being chased down in carceri or stay hidden.

The longer I'm on the server, more I realize why things like HiPS & EDM are taken. Of course, the other issue is, a lot of folks expect that their hero is an epic badass right out the gate. Um, no...it takes work to get to that point. I'm on my 5th rebuild with Morthos, I think.

I think the intent of the conversation would be the same, but the tone would be different.

p1: "Are you physically weak?" p2: "Yes, but I am mentally strong" or "I have skills at slicing things from the shadows."
p1: "Then hang behind the (insert tank class here)." [yes=ok, no=gtfo please]
p1: "Can you slip into the shadows to strike our enemies?" p2: "Yes" or "No". p1 (if no) : "Then, what use are you?" p1: "I can do (insert thing here)."

I should not have started this thread, I know that now. In my defense, am rather . . . out of sorts right now (to put it lightly.)

Can someone lock or delete this thread?
