So, in NWN2 and PNP, high up demons, like Balors, are immune to a lot but not acid. Why isn't it the same in game? Also, do Balors have DR against cold iron? My cold iron kamas can't damage any of the ones I've fought.

The Devils are spot on, silver DR and they can be damaged by electricity (most anyway). Just curious why Balors and other demons are not damaged by acid?

Did you try fighting one without it's buffs on?

Normally, they have premonition on which gives DR/Adamantine. The acid damage might be absorb into some other resistance spell they cast on themselves.

I have killed the balor solo every time with acid from virtrolic blasts, after it's buffs start to fail or if I hit them before they get all their buffs activated.

Baatezu: Alchemical Silver
Tanar'ri: Cold Iron

Damage reductions do not stack, but the highest applicable is used.

As an example, I could take a look at the Horned Devils, who in my experience, possess some 15 points of damage reduction that you can pierce with Alchemical Silver weapons. However, in addition they also possess a lesser amount of another type of damage reduction which you can not penetrate with a simple Magical Alchemical Silver weapon.

Thus, I would argue that the higher level Fiends possess, multiple forms of damage reduction, let it be from innate abilities or spells.

Balors DR is 15 cold iron AND good, not OR like we put to the lesser fiends (technically many of them are also 'and' rather than 'or' though, but we only put the bosses follow this by the books for multiplayer convenience).

Acid works, one of the balors has energy immunity spell to use, it can be nasty to kill with spellcasters.

Hence blessed weapon spell/wand is goodie goodie to have... making your weapon good alignment so you can ignore all the DRs...

Hmm, Cold Iron -and- good. Interesting. I'm taking that a LN aligned PC won't get through that DR then? Or is that the alignment of the weapon? I'll try again for another shot at a Balor (not the Lord, the one on the mountain spire in the Abyss). My 1D6 acid didn't seem to touch it last time, but maybe I had my other pair of Cold Iron kamas out with no acid. Not too sure.

Thanks all, this helps a lot! -JPD

when it speaks of alignments it means more of the weapon alignment than the character actually ;) a good aligned can wield evil weapon still after all.. to extend at least.

And they're not immune to acid/cold, but they always have 10 Damage Resistance against those
