There it was again, that feint echo of nostalgia. That whisper in the back of Amaku Yamikaze's mind, that voice that told her...
...Your time is comming.
She lifted her head, she shook it firmly. She walked over to Notary Kour as the two patrolled together. The Young Notary had become prominent like herself, she too had done quite a bit to save the multiverse one shead at a time.
She didnt know why she chose to bring the woman along with her, but what she did know is that from her expression, she too was troubled.
"What is it lass? What bothers ye?" She asked serenly to the Notary. Kour turned to face her superiour and bowed in the manner of a humble apostle.
"My Lady-... Mover-" She stammered briefly.
"Amy..." The Mover said to her Notary reassuringly.
Kour shook her head. "Amy..." she said with some conviction "I just, dont know why you chose me of all the other Notaries you could have brought along with you? Im just another soldier in the army ma'am, im honoured you want me by your side but... why?"
Amaku chuckled and sat down on a crate resting against an alleyway. This was clearly some kind of brewery, yet today, it seemed compleatley abbandoned, the atmosphere was quiet, in a ghostly way.
The atmopshere reflected in her unit. The Notaries and the two Measures she had brought along with her all had that same uncomfortable mood about them. They all felt a sense of trouble in their eye as if something ill was going to happen.
Amaku would do everything she could to stop that from happening.
"Why lass?" She finally answered, looking up to her. The womans polished gladitorial armour contrasted her own roughly unkept wargear perfectly. It was a perfect example of her freshness and Amaku's veteracy.
"Because from what I know, ye are someone who knows the city well, whos lived here all your life. Yer like me, even if you come from a seperate part of this place." Indeed, Kour came and was braught up in the Ladies Ward, a complete contrast from Amaku, who had been raised in the roughest and toughest parts of the Hive. Yet her heart, and her set goals were clearly as admirable as the Movers, something about her reminded her of a younger version of herself. With the same aspirations behind her more chivilric form. "More importantly, because of who ye are, yer someone who will do what ever it takes to help others. It takes a certain determination, a certain level of courage, t'be able to do that without t'fear of being destroyed by it. Thats why ye were chosen, ye were chosen because you dont fear, you choose to protect those who are fearful. As do I lass, as do I. The way we do it may be different, but in the end behind the skin, the personality and the race, were the same people, dreamin' of a place of peace."
Kour seemed taken back by it all, but a warm smile formed on her face and a courtetous bow was given in respect. "Thank you Mover, you honour me with your words and I, will hope in time to live to each and every one of them." Her gaze fixed on ahead.
"Do you know this place?" She asked Amaku, who looked the same direction as Kour, down a dark alleyway that seemingly had a dead end.
"Aye" she said softly. "Long ago, this were where I first fought a sod for my bitter life." She smiled at the nostalgia, only to be sad as to what it was about. She saw a young Amy standing in the end of the alleyway, pushed into a corner by a thuggish half-orc who grinned at her with a lycencious stare in his eye. She roughly fought against him, and with a sharp piece of broken glass she opened the bastards throat.
She watched the ghost bleed to death, and the younger Amy looking at her with that same firey determination she had so long ago. She nodded to her, telling her that time was comming, that the end was comming.
For once, she agreed with herself.
"Sounds like you had a pretty hard time..." Kour broke her concentration, she looked up to her quickly and smiled.
"Nah... it wasnt that hard... but listen to me well Kour... if something goes wrong in all this I want you to make me a promise."
The Notary raised a brow. "A Promise?"
She nodded to her firmly. "Aye, a promise, promise me that no matter what happens, you will always stay true to what ye are now... what ye believe in now. No matter what happens, ye will always keep fighting for it, for t'right reasons, and ne'er let yer temptation for revenge get t'better of ye."
She looked puzzled but swore the vow, promising all that was asked of her then in turn asked. "I dont understand why you would ask me such a question Mover?"
Amaku knew though, she knew well. She had once gone to the very heart of Stygia not on a quest for Justice but revenge, revenge against the evil beast that had once made her into a villian.
At that time, long ago, she wanted nothing more than to defeat Selphara... but defeat wasnt enough. The Eryines taunted her with words that haunted her to this day:
"Without me... you would be nothing, without me."
She felt a shiver down her spine. She remembered the scythe crashing through Selpharas trembling breastplate as she ended the miserable creatures life.
Yet it did not bring her satifaction as she had hoped it would. It only left her feeling cold, purposless, even after she had become A Mover, she still felt that her purpose wasnt clear yet.
But slowly the answer was comming... she felt it in the wind, in the whispers. She saw visions of the end on the horizon like sunset before a moonless dark night.
She basked in a deep breathe and smiled up to the Notary. "It doesnt matter why I asked, what matters is you made that promise, you'll keep it, I believe it lass... just dont ever loose yerself... it never ends well."
The Notary looked at her queerly still confused, evidently, she didnt seem content with her answer but before she could get anything else, a scout returned to the troop.
"Ma'am, we might have an idea where to go next."
It was time to leave, Amaku looked at Kour and smiled. "Maybe next time ill give ye a clear answer lass."
Then, she ran off with the scout, and rallied the rest of her unit.
In the moment of crisis
