Any know what the game mechanics are for Ex-monks?

I lost my lawful status in SCoD and lost my monk abilities and the option to level in monk levels which I expected. However, I've also lost the ability to rest for spells from Spirit Shaman which has no alignment restrictions.

The game gives a message "You cannot concentrate and maintain your ki. You must relearn the discipline necessary or leave your ways behind" when I try and rest. The spells appear in the quick cast as normal but with no casting numbers.

Does losing lawful status and becoming an ex-monk block you from ever resting properly and gaining spells?

Sounds like a bug. The message is meant to let you know that you no longer benefit from Ki Strike.

This is just how we implemented it for simplicity. Whenever you have a class with an illegal alignment combination, you lose all your feat based abilities (including on other classes). It's just a very rarely discovered feature since we have so little alignment changing.

I didn't remember it also affected spells, but I guess it does.

Is this info added somewhere? Kinda a suprise to me when I made my half dragon monk. I took 16 levels of monk before taking half dragon levels since they switch your alignment around. After I did I lost ki strike and all my monk abilities which kinda...sucked.

Especially considering this is in the NWN2 wiki - Ex-monks - A monk who becomes non-lawful cannot gain new levels as a monk but retains all monk abilities.

Demise, you could just choose a different draconic parentage from the list (green, blue, bronze, silver, gold, emerald or sapphire), unless you've already built up a lot of RP / based your character appearance on it.

Yeah I know, I rebuilt again I was just suprised, had no idea ki strike would stop working if I changed alignment AFTER taking all monk levels.

You're not meant to lose your abilities, I think it's just a server bug or something.

Ex-Monks
A monk who becomes nonlawful cannot gain new levels as a monk but retains all monk abilities.
Like a member of any other class, a monk may be a multiclass character, but multiclass monks face a special restriction. A monk who gains a new class or (if already multiclass) raises another class by a level may never again raise her monk level, though she retains all her monk abilities.

Isn't Paladins going blackguard how it is suppose to work in the book if a paladin falls?

No, they're treated like a base fighter I think, but they can still take blackguard.

If a fallen paladin takes blackguard levels, they get the evil version of some of their paladin abilities beyond what a regular blackguard gets. But they definitely don't get the double-stacking save bonus, or to have both smite good and smite evil.

Fallen paladins are just really crappy fighters. All of the blandness, none of the feats.

Could we have that feature written down somewhere a tad more obviously :P Like in rules, was a tad suprised getting to level 20 and build completly broke!
