Something To Say About The Events...

Events are fun...

But someone has to do the clean up.

Someone has to fiddle the magical lutes to return the missing monsters, close all the portals leading to eventful planes and places, dust over the fire place, and make it seem like nothing has happened at all.

If you cannot see the picture, it is picture of a boy who has made something of a mess.

Thanks to Obsidian, no can do. But it's not that much of a problem to just shrug and continue on your way.

I thoroughly disagree with the TC due to two main reasons.

1. The main issue is one of perception. I do not perceive Sigil as a child’s room filled with toys, paint and whatnot that all have to be put back in their place once the “fun” has been had. Sigil is a living, breathing world and the fact that the events might leave traces, so to speak, is essential for the server to have Forward Momentum. A good server should be a living, evolving entity, not a stagnated room. (I realize that server-resets combat this idea in a way, but since there is no way to get around them and really no good way to roleplay them either I’m going to leave them out for the sake of argument)

2. The secondary is one that utterly bewilders me. Why should the fact that things aren’t “as they used to be” supposed to be a bad thing? The fact that monster-A isn’t in place-A doesn’t seem like a huge problem unless the player has a fixed idea about what he or she wants to do that won’t budge for anything. Such as “I was going to do this quest and now I can’t. This sucks!” instead of “I was going to do this quest and now I can’t. I wonder what else I can find out about what happened?” To play with an open mind should be easy to the people here since the level of creativity is leagues beyond what I’ve seen anywhere else. (Granted I’m not that well travelled, but I know talent when I see it!)

And while this might be sticking my neck out that extra dangerous inch I feel the entire tone of the post leaves something to be desired. WeÂ’re all here to have fun and that includes the DMÂ’s. Acting like someone's merely providing you with a service and publicly demanding things is usualy a swift way to burn people out.

TC? Would you mind telling us what it means?
I know you can find Twin Cities in Minnesota, I know that there is an antibiotic called tetracycline, while the concepts of time capsules and tax courts are not a strange to me. However, I do not think any of the latter can be used to define the acronym TC to make sense in the given context.

Mr. O: I presume that means wait for the server to reset?

Yep, that'd be the thing. We might at some point create own tool to destroy visual effects, but there is no rush for it currently. It's Cage, so anything could happen anyway ;)

TC means Topic Creator. If that was the only thing you found thoughtworthy about my post... I don't really know what to say.

I see those messes everyday I have two kids.

could say a lot about events though rather not rant. Too many other servers have ran terrible dm events that I typically avoid them.

When custom portals are made, they need to be left open until server reset for a simple reason. If anyone logged off or lost their connection in an "Event" zone and the portal is no longer there, they will be unable to leave that zone until reset. Thus, any event portals will be left open; we as DMs try to leave them in inconspicuous places when possible.

Removed spawn triggers can not be returned until reset.
